H&G #501? I have an H&G #502 that is designed for the 45AutoRim. Nice bullets (boolits).
Creeker, you always take great pictures. Not only that, your bullets always seem to turn out good!
Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Marine [Skip] for the good words.
Nick B. is correct. These are from a MiHec brass mould which is the RCBS 45-270-SAA clone.
The boolits pictured are cast from 50/50 range lead/pure lead & sized .454. They test 7-8 BHN & weigh 293 grains.

I think you got the penetration part solved. Now about accuracy and recoil? Do you use Ibuprofen after the range session?

My left hand is just heal up from the knife. That & very bad weather plus firewood orders have kept me from testing this boolit but I assure you a Bisley Blackhawk will handle this bullet at 1100-1200 fps with no pain to the shooter.

Got to ask why folks continue to use the term "boolits"? I know it comes from some other forum but they are still BULLETS.

Bullets=Jacketed projectiles
Boolits=Cast Lead projectiles
It's just jargon. Every group of people that hang out together, in person or online, create new words and terms to communicate more effectively. For example- you can post on this forum talking about P&R, Cokes, TT and TH, RR/WO, etc. and most folks understand what you're talking about. Now I see many of these terms show up on other boards and people understand what they mean. Boolits is no different. Just a word coined to differentiate between two types of bullets.

These are so shiny they are frosted! Just one of those days that I wanted bullets (boolits) and settled for less than perfect. Funny thing about that though, they will still shoot to the right place and consistently! So....................

This is one of a pile of pretty little forty caliber range fodder. They will get the tumble lube treatment but they look better for picture time before that. This was from a Lee six cavity mold.

First of all from all the pictures we have a cast of casters here. HEE HEE
And Brother Wayne, if you lived here I'd put a saw in your hands 'cause there's times I could use a little help.

My back hurts just looking at all that wood. Burned through 4 cord this winter, and have about a cord left in the basement, and 2 or so of green stuff outside my bulk-head that needs to be cut up. Will have to get to cutting sooner than I'd like.

Nothing quite like firewood. Not sure how much I've done over the years but surely it's been a bunch.

I'm with Dave on this and just don't get it . Might sound weird but because of this I won't look at the other forum on cast bullets .
Calling them "boolits" just looks and sounds stupid .
My 2 cents .

Mental picture coming into focus:
"THEY SAID THAT BOOLIT WORD AGAIN!"
Or, "MAKES ME SO MAD WHEN THEY USE THAT WORD!
I am a member of both forums and glad to be. They use the word in a way that is almost blasphemous in its definition. I simply use it to describe lead projectiles differentiating between them and jacketed. It is a "cutsie" thing for me.
But really, it isn't a cuss word or vulgar or .... and there is a lot of knowledge, information, opportunities for procuring equipment and camaraderie around that aspect of our hobby.
One thing I do know too, you staying away from the castboolits doesn't effect them one iota. Was just over there tonight and they didn't even know you weren't there!
p.s. Have you ever done any reading of history before Webster published his American Dictionary? Pick up some stuff on Lewis and Clark. They often spelled things wrong different ways over and over and over again. To put this much emphasis on something so menial is well........You fill in the blanks.
Have you ever abstained from something else because there was a word used you didn't like? Say a TV show or movie at the theater or a coworker that uses God's name in vain? No, probably not. Not many do stand up for things like that. They gobble down curse words brought into their own living rooms night after night after night in front of their kids or wife without batting an eye. Let someone get "cute" with a word describing bullets and "I'm gonna keep my toys at home" thing comes out. If you want to admit to something sounding stupid, there it is friend! In a nutshell!

Sounds like discussions I've seen on "clips" vs "magazines", with the major difference being Boolit is sorta like a short hand notation. It's much easier to write Boolit than specifying it's a cast lead bullet.

Like I said before Nick, I didn't bring it up to offend anyone. If "boolits" sounds stupid to you probably many other words I use would also.
Being from West Virginia & of coal mining stock I've been laughed at & of by my fellow soldiers when I left the protected confines of the coal camp & company houses were I was raised.
Moving to Montana to drive truck for Sammons Trucking Co. I found myself having to spell words over the phone to my dispatcher because they couldn't understand my tongue. It didn't stop there; I had to explain the meaning of words I used as "they had never heard such". I used a slang speech which others of my kind understood but outsiders didn't.
I guess those on the Cast Boolit Board speak a little different tongue but so do those on this board. Three screw, four screw, five screw, pre lock, post lock, things you don't hear much of from the factory that produced the arms we love yet we know that of which those on this board speak.
So, come on over to the Cast Boolit board & enjoy. No one I know of will be offended if you use the word "Bullet".

Ok I'll come back over and check it out .Been about 2 years since I was there .
And to Smith Crazy, sorry if I offended you or anyone else who uses that term . Wasn't my intention. Like I said," might sound weird" .
I'll go to counselling and report back what they say . ;-)

One of our son in laws is from Kaiser, WV. He sure 'nuff talks funny!
We had a youth get together at our old church several years ago and had some folks come all the way from the same part of WV as the son in law. We happened to mention that they had some "odd" sayings and they laughed.
When I asked what were some of the things that they said back home that they didn't say too much when out of "country", so to speak the top on the list was: "Yuntoo" I asked what that meant and he slowed down and said: "Ya want to?" Then one of the things that they said that I thought was really funny was: "Use ta could" By this time I was rolling on the floor laughing. There were many others but I don't want to bore you.
LAH knows what I am talking about anyway!
Nick, not offended. It just seems to get weary defending something that is widely accepted when the outcome is much more dangerous to you individually. Boolit, schmoolits, doolits, or whatever.
p.s. I do hope counseling helps!

I grew up in the Northeastern part of Missouri in a very rural area. When your teachers tell you to sound out a word so you can spell it, I ran into trouble.
I grew up with "HAFTA" instead of "have to" and "ZINK" instead of "sink" ETC, ETC, ETC!!!!!
Then I married a girl from the Pittsburg PA area and tried to figger out what she meant when she asked me to "Rid the table". My first response was that there was nothing wrong with it and we didn't need to throw it out.
When I was in college. In northeastern Missouri. a professor of Sociology told the class that only part of the country spoke like we did and that was a small part of northern Maine. I wore out two Quick Spell books when I was in college.
Since I have a computer "Spell Check" is a very close friend

I don't understand why you think "boolits" means cast bullets? For several hundred years there were only lead bullets. They didn't change the name of cast bullets just because jacketed came along. I've been shooting cast "bullets" a long time but have never thought of them as "boolits". Seems kind of silly to me.

beautiful bullets man.
at first i thought it was a 454424 or a 452423
the 270SAA clone is nice.
i've shot them out of 45 ACP 625 over just under 6 grains of universal clays. that was a stout load.

Once again it's slang. And once again, sorry I brought it up. Never dreamed this would stir people so.
