Google has.
Looks like most loads will do 2-3 feet through wet phone books, with heavier bullets having the advantage of course.

I just took a 300+ lb. hog with my Mountain Gun using the "simple" 240 gr. SWC Laser Cast bullet and 22.0 grs. of 2400. The animal was quartering away at high speed and I got complete penetration on two hits to the body. The angle managed to break one shoulder but I have no doubt that it would've broken both shoulders on a broadside shot or gone through lengthwise if it were facing me. Good penetration, if you ask me.

Shot a small ( 110 lb field dressed ) white tail buck from a tree stand
that was about 25yds down hill and directly behind my tree. Gun was my old three screw Ruger super black hawk. The load was a 250 gr cast
Lyman 429421 over 24grs of 296. The bullet hit the buck just under the
right eye and I found it at the base of the tail just under the skin. That
was several yrs ago, still have the bullet.

Using Lyman 429244 @ 265g from WW over 22g W296/H110 from my 3" 629-2, I shot a freshly felled honey pine. Quite a few shots actually, I put a target on it and shot a couple cylinders at it.
This log was WIDE. If I laid over the top lengthwise and tried to get my arms around it, I couldn't get my hands to the center. At least 3' diameter, maybe more.
I picked up several bullets from the other side of that log that went straight through the heart of it. Still have them.

At sixty yards a 240 grain Hornady XTP on top of 22 grains of H110 won't quite go diagonally through a 165 pound mule deer, but almost...

It has been mentioned, you need hardcast lead or tough jacketed bullet. Hornandy 265 grn is a good one. It will hold together.
