Default Lee safety prime

Hello,
I recently bought the lee 4 hole turret press. I like it so far except for the safety prime device. I cannot get the primer to feed consistently.
Any suggestions?

Sir,

I have this setup also, and it took me a little while to get used to it. It might help us if you could tell us more exactly what is happening. Do you press the plastic shroud on top and no primer is transferred into the little cup on the ram? If so, does this happen regardless of how many primers are in the tray?

Just a possibility: I found that what I called the "shroud" above needs to be pushed forward in a certain manner for the device to function properly. I had to learn only to push it forward, not downward; the downward motion is automatic once contact is made and sufficient forward pressure applied.

One negative to expect with this device: when you get down to one or two primers left in the channel, they tend not to want to slide any further due to there being no pressure from other primers further back to push them into the mechanism. I take the device off and place them in the cup manually, usually with tweezers.

Let us know how things go; maybe one of us can provide more helpful advice.

Andy

Basically you need to fiddle with it a bit to set it up correctly. Set it so it is a little to the left. As mentioned, it will not feed the last one or two primers left. I just take it off and manually push the last primer out and insert it by hand.

Here is a short video:

I finally got the same press and primer feed set up a couple of weeks ago. I had read lots of complaints about the primer feed too.
I was very careful in lining up the bracket it fits in, as per recommendations I had read.
I have went through about 300 primers since then and have not had one single mess-up. It works so good it is almost dull!
I do not let it get down to a few primers. When all the primers are in the chute, I load another box in the tray.
Keep messing with it and good luck.

Start with the ram completely lowered. With the safety prime removed look straight down from above to align the left side of the safety prime mounting bracket to be parallel with the primer arm below. That should be pretty close. You may still need to tweak it a little bit one way or the other so snug, but don't tighten the bolt completely until you are done tweaking.

I only had about 8 primers in cue so I will try it with more primers to get the push. Also I will check on the alignment of the mtg bracket and make sure it is parrell with the frame. Sounds like i just need to play with it some more.

With mine it will feed all but the last 2 small pistol primers and the last (1) large pistol.

I dump 100 in at at a time.

Once you have it lined up correctly it works great. I doubt mine misses 1 or 2 out of 1000.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that has trouble with the last couple of primers left in the safety prime. Like others, just pop them in your hand and feed them on the holder.
