Default Price Increase Coming Soon?

My local dealer states price increases of 10% are coming April 1 and will be up some 30% by Fall. This includes ammo and components. It will also be harder to find, according to him. I've noticed several ammo components are on sale in catalogs "thru 3/31/11". Has anyone else heard about this?

Several of the e mail fliers I receive mentioned price increases.

Must be everyone was having too much fun so they thought they would stick it to us again.

Must be something to due the the "summer blend" of fuel or tensions in the oil producing regions.

Spot brass prices are holding around $4.40 a pound. That's down from the high ($4.60+) in February, but it's basically been under $4.00 going back to 2006, at least. Notice how more ammunition manufacturers are turning to steel cases.

Yep, if they start the rumor mill now, they can avoid having to dump the overstock they have sitting on the shelves. The last time they got the ninnies to "stock up" they managed to drive prices up 50% or more.

Unfortunately for distributors, now they've got a lot of unsold product on their shelves. They need to spark another scare to move it. These forums are a great place to start the rumors.

The price of copper is way up there $4.40, so I'm not surprised to hear about ammo going up, I load all my own so I might buy some more brass soon. Heads up.

Just google copper prices, all time high. Cartridge brass is 70% copper I believe.

FWIW, "Shanghai Futures Exchange (SFE) announced yesterday in a circular that the lead futures would began the debut at the price of 18350 Yuan per ton."

That's what we need...bullet/ammunition futures contracts!

Notice that the chickens are clucking over FUD.

Like I said, these forums are a great place to start rumors.

Internet rumors or not, we all have to admit, anything related to firearms is going up, not going down. I need to find another hobby.

I get you on “FUD” but to me reloading is all about buying in bulk anyways. I guess there are the people out there that buy primers in the hundred count. I just find that buying in volume on something that I know I’m going to get around to using anyways saves me money in the long run. But I started eying the few empty bottles of Bullseye that I have (don’t know why I’m keeping empty bottles… may come up with a good use for them eventually) and I noticed that each one the price goes up a buck and change or so. That’s every few months from a price of $15 up to $22. And that only took a little over a year. I just don’t see prices on much of anything going down and staying down. I see it more like three steps forward, one step back, two steps forward, and so on. We may see a price drop here and there but in the long run it all seems to just keep going up. So even though I believe “FUD” has a roll in this, I see the rationality that prices are only going up so I may as well stock up when I can afford to buy. Look at some of your old price tags on components and tell me you wish you couldn’t still buy them at that price… Good luck on that one.
