Default 200 gr cast bullets for .45 Colt?

Is this a good idea or dumb idea? I recently started casting .452 HP bullets and I'm forcing myself to use some Trail Boss until it is gone despite swearing I would use it for fertilizer. I just can't get the stuff to meter smoothly for squat. But that is a separate issue. Is loading these into Colt instead of ACP just wasting bullets? I usually cast a 250 gr round flat nose for my Blackhawk and loading a few of these was just a passing fancy. I gave them the max load listed with 6.5 grains for 855 fps so in theory that should be one thumping load, same as the ACP. Am I just spinning my wheels here?

The visual of what I have done:

Those are little AA battery Inova flashlights. Not the blind you bright that some are but super handy to have all around the house. I love 'em.

Data used:

Here is what I'm hoping I don't cause:

I know they are non-traditional and all that, I'm just really loving these penta-HP's so much that I want them in everything.

If your loading them in a blackhawk why not use the "ruger only" data. The bullet don't care if it came out of a ACP or not just as long as it got to 855fps. IMO the 45C is a much cooler round and that would be excuse enough to use it even if did take a bit more powder.

These are only lead with a little tin for fill out. If I go "Ruger only" I have to add antimony and these aren't gas checked bullets. I could work through finding a powder to do it that didn't scrap the bottom of the bullet with melted lead and smear it down the tube, but for now this is just idle fancy. They are water dropped, but that doesn't do that much without the antimony.

And I still can't type "antimony" and not think of a thread where a guy's girlfriend wanted to know why "animal meat" had to be in bullets to make them hard cast...

I have loaded a bunch for my SW M 25 MT Gun. I am using the MBC 200gr RNFP as I bought them for my regular XD 45 which will not feed SWC very well. The XDm will.

Anyway, I cranked them up with some Unique and like them a lot. Lets just say between 8 to 9 grs.something.

Sir, FWIW, I've loaded a lot of cast 200-grain roundnose flat points in .45 Colt. The main drawback to 200s is that they print lower than 250s, which can be irksome in fixed-sight guns.

I never tried to hot-rod that bullet, just sticking with 8.0 grains of Unique, which is probably in about the same velocity ballpark as your Trail Boss load. I wouldn't call it a thumper--it's more like a big .38 special. Great plinking load.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

Another fan of the 200 lrnfp in 45 LC. 7.5 grains hp-38, fed 150 primer, 200 lrnfp and hard LFC gets about 880 fps from 4 5/8 45 LC Ruger blackhawk. Extremely accurate in every SA 45LC tried in. Even with the standard Ruger adj rear site, the front site needed filed down to bring POI up.

The only issue is lack of crimp groove. About all I ever shot in my CAS guns were 200gr LRNFP. They tend to shoot a tiny bit low in fixed sighted guns, but no issue.

I have shot 200 gr swc's in 45 Colt. I use 7.0 of Unique. You have to be careful with the swc's as they can be too long for some SAA cylinders.

Bob,
I just got my mould from Miha for the same bullet, read boolit!

At any rate, I haven't gotten any loaded up but I do have some ready! The cycle in both my Glock 21 and my PT1911. I checked them in the M625JM too and all three of them are going to get a workout, believe you me!

As a side note, I also have some 45 Colt firearms that are going to get some of these bad boys ran through them! M25 -7, Ruger Blackhawk 45 Convertible and a Puma rifle! That rifle ought to SING with those bullets and a healthy load of H110/W296 under them!

Will have to cast some more before all of that though. I want to make my 45ACP guns run with them first!
