Default Anyone reloading .45 Blazer brass with small primers?

Bought a bunch of CCI Blazer brass ammo in 45acp and they use small pistol primers. The previous lot I ordered had large primers, as expected in a .45.
Has anyone reloaded these and if so, what adjustment to your powder charge are you making to compensate for a small pistol primer?
Thanks.

I do not load the small primer versions. I have some but as far as I know there is no adjustment needed. The small Primer brass was/is use for the eco friendly lead free bullets or frangible.

I separated mine out and just save it in case I run out of large primers.

You'll be seeing more of those. They are "Non Toxic" loads for indoor ranges. SP and fully clad bullets. WinKleen is one. Federal puts them out but the boxes are almost identical to the LP ammo. The SP loads come in a slightly smaller box.

Lots of posts in lots of places. Everything I've seen is "Load 'em as usual."

I get enough in my scrounging that I have a good size bag of them.

I went through this same issue. I found links to any forum that talks about anything in .45ACP... The general consensus is the same thing that I have found. Just alter your process for small primers and change nothing. They work just fine.

Thanks for the info. Couldn't they make a non toxic load using a large primer? Just becomes a PIA when now you have to segregate brass of the same brand and caliber.

My guess is that the SP simply put out less toxins than LP.

I haven't loaded any yet because I don't have any but friends that have loaded them already have told me they change nothing other than the primer size.

The Blazer Brass I have is large primer, but I have both large and small primer Federal brass. I use the same bullets and powder charge in both, just have to keep them separate for priming. Kind of a pain, but I sort them once, then keep them apart for evermore. I've noticed no significant difference in performance between them.

Nope. One caliber, one primer size for me. With as few as those getting into range pick-ups, I just toss them.

My range allows me to scrounge all the brass I need and then some. It's getting to be about 50/50 small primer/large primer from what I've seen. I imagine it'll be all small primer in time.

I sort them out and when I get enough, I'll set up and reload them. Absolutely no difference in performance. There was an old thread that had some pretty insightful comments as to why .45 had large primers - something about a hold-over from black powder days?

I sort them out of my recovered brass and reload them to the same specs as LP brass.

However, I keep them separate and only shoot them in situations were I don't intend or it's inconvienent to recover my brass. I treat them as expendable like steel case ammo.

I use them at lost brass matches, I hate it when I shoot something like the 44 special and the range gets my brass.

If you can manage your brass to keep small primer brass separate from large pistol, then load the same. Some would argue that the small pistol brass gives better accuracy. I can't verify this, my hand shakes too much. I reload both, taking only one primer size to the range at a time, I love them both. I am finding small primer brass easier to get at the moment as no one seems to want it.

The only time I would change something is if you're trying to meet PF for USPSA or similar. SP chronoed like 20-30fps slower which may knock you into minor depending on your load to begin with. Otherwise for non PF required shooting, load away.

I only conducted a very limited experiment with one powder charge and bullet combo and could not see a significant change in velocity.
If I had a large and free sjuply of small primed brass I would use them. I use my large primed brass and sometimes inadvertantly pick up a case or two of the small primed stuff. I am finally contemplating marking all my brass so that I do not have to put up with the nuisance.

I just tumbled a batch the other day. They are perfect for those unconventional loads that will be loaded the old fashioned way, one at a time, and then put away for a rainy day. If I'm going to load something for a lost brass match, it's going to be steel. Nothing beats once fired steel if you're not going to get it back.

"Lost Brass Match"?
Who the heck do they think they are that gives them the right to take your brass? I would not shoot any match where they think they have the right to keep YOUR BRASS!

We have the servants pick up our brass, using the nut wizard roller things. Brass is marked with our secret Sharpie Headstamp ID tool.

Send me a few thousand of those nasty small primer Blazer cases and I'll test them for you. It'll take a year or so before I get the results, but we can wait, right?

I've reloaded & shot several hundred small primered .45 Federal & CCI brass and can't tell any difference between them and the large primered brass. Haven't loaded any thing but light target loads using Bullseye and some with Unique in the small primered brass.

I load these for my service pistol bullseye matches. My hardball 1911A1 kicks brass a long ways with my service pistol loads and it's too much of a pain to go looking for the brass. At least that's my take on "lost brass" matches.

I have a friend who gives me all of his that he separates and I've kept all mine since I first noticed them. I've loaded them with no problems at all. I keep them separate and only use them in my revolvers. Its an easy way to keep them separate. I think seating the primers is actually easier. I haven't noticed any difference in performance at all.

I picked some of these up at the range the other day. After my initial shock, I just reloaded them with my usual powder charge and keep 'em segregated. I generally shoot them in a .45 ACP revolver, so I don't get them mixed up.

I load them specifically for a taurus PT145(the pistol from HELL). I use only the Fed SP because of its sensitivity, as its the only way to get that piece of $*!# to fire. There is no doubt when one of the little buggers sneaks into the RL1050, it locks up when the swageing station gets a hold of one of them..

Otherwise , I hate the damn things.

I reload them and do not compensate in any way. If you're reloading range brass there's much worse things than small primers to worry about!

The Federal and CCI sp brass seems just fine. And the Federal sp brass seems to always be the cleanest on the inside when it comes out of the tumbler.
