Default When the Pressure Is On

Here is a situation: You and a half-dozen of your raucous, disrespectful shooting buddies are going to shoot slow-fire, bullseye style to see who buys. What S&W revolver and HANDLOAD would you use?

Hmmm.... how about a model 25-2 (.45ACP) with a 200-gr. LSWC over 5 grains of Titegroup?

Should give you a fighting chance, anyway!

Simple, anything in my hand! haha

All kidding aside, any one of my S&W revolvers will give me a fighting chance as long as I am shooting against similar stock guns. That being said, I think my M586 6" with 158gr +/- over 3.5gr of Bullseye is going to be hard to beat.

If not that, then, 4gr of Bullseye under an H&G #68 in 45ACP from my M625JM.

I hope that all that "buying" will be of non-alcoholic beverages since gunpowder and booze doesn't mix.

I pick up my model 14..........the load is a Zero 148gr. HBWC lit off by 3.0 gr. of Titegroup. Unless you can consistently shoot north of 275 in a Harry Reeves match with your revolver, you will be in my rear view mirror.

Ditto exactly on the load. The gun would probably be a 28-2 that has a trigger that has to be felt to be believed.

Model 14 with 148g DEWC over 2.7g Bullseye.

If I can use a rimfire, then Model 41 loaded with CCI SV.

If I was on that day any of my reloads in .38 Special, .41 Magnum, or .45 ACP would work. If they appeared to be shooting well I'd go with the .41 and "Long Tall Sally", a M657 with an eight and three eighths inch barrel.

That gun does not approve of missing
and likes to shoot small groups.

K38/M14 loaded with Remington or Star 148gr HBWCs and something like 2.7gr VV-N310, 2.7gr of WW WST, or 2.8gr of BE.

Thanks for all of the great loads, men. Looks like the Model 14 with wadcutters backed by Bullseye still gets a lot of respect. I like that, but I might use a 25-2 and .45 AR cases with 3.8 grains of Red Dot and a 180-gr SWC taper crimped with a little bit of shoulder showing. I would probably be a buyer but it wouldn't be the fault of gun or load.

+1 with Skip. Gunpowder and alcohol are a lousy mix. Tastes terrible and simply will NOT give consistent velocities.
