Thinking about buying a new chronograph and want one in which the sky-screens & brainbox are not one unit. Considering the CED M2. In view of the fact that chronographs can be finicky machines, I'm looking for actual owner input.

I cannot give you actual owner input as I didn't by it. I hemmed and hawed between it and the Competition Electronics which I bought.

After fighting with the Chrony Alpha master twice, I returned it and got the Comp Electronics based on the reviews, In the blazing Florida Sun it has not missed a beat. Yes the guts are all in the box so if I shoot it, Oh well ( I can buy the interface but don't need it) but its half the price of the CED which does not get the good ratings.

I shoot, change the strings and retrieve them at home in the air conditioned comfort.

On sale at Midway. I know it's not what you asked but just an idea.

I love my CED M2. Been using it since they were first released. I've yet to get an "error" reading, or any other oddball type reading. Used the CED M1 prior to this and it was great too. Upgraded "because I could".

Been using chronographs in a personal and a professional capacity since the mid 1970's. Used everything under the sun including the fabled Oehler 33 and the CED M2 is as good as it gets.

If I had to come up with some sort of an "issue", I'd complain about the low-tech software that they have. Apparently it's some sort of third-party software, and seems like it was written 15 years ago and has never been updated since. IIRC, it doesn't work with Win 7 either.

I believe the Oehler 35P is considered one of the best. Mine has seen a fair amount of use over many years. The printer quit but they repaired for free.

I 100% agree. I have an Oehler 35P and have used it for many years. Built in printer/proof channel(3 sky screens) and the brain box is on your table. Not out there where the bullets are flying. They available once again from Oehler.

I understand the the Oehler is regarded as the top of the line but I don't need the built-in printer. Additionally, it's price is triple that of the CED M2, hence my inquiry about that machine. To me, the units with the sky screens and processing unit all in one are an accident waiting to happen.

I really like my CED M2. I got it because a buddy has the M1 and I liked using his. The software does not work with my Macs but then who's does. The M2 remembers lots of strings and works fine for my use and the price.

You have no confidence you can shoot above a 3-4" object that is 10 ft away?

I used to be a bit leery but do not think about it anymore, I suppose with rifles it is a bit different but handguns I put on a little rest and fire away. So if I kill mine, then I'll get the CED M2

I certainly is more convenient to have the data center right at the shooting bench, no doubt about that.

Well, as a matter of fact I am. I'm also confident that, given the opportunity, what can happen, will happen. You see, while the skyscreens are 10' away, the target back with target attached is 25 or 50 meters away and that & the front sight is generally what your concentrating on. More than a few chrono's have been center punched by experienced shoots because, to err is human. Why chance it?

Whenever I use my Chronograph, I do not even set a target up. I just let it hit the berm. All I want is the numbers, then I can take it down and concentrate on accuracy.
