Setting my .45 ACP dies

I am setting my dies for the .45 and now have a few qestion.

How far down do I need to flar out the case?

I have seated the bullet to 1.270, out of the Speer reloading manual #12, pg 558.
Bullet is a laser cast, 230g RN .452

I have made some unprimed samples, and when I cycle them through my 1911, twice a bullet came out of the case and became lodged in the barrel, do I need to crimp?

I also have a Lee crimp die handy if they need to be crimped.

your OAL is a hair long for the bullet in use.
What happening is the bullet is is getting jammed into the rifling so you'll need to seat it just a bit deeper and reduce the charge a bit.
crimp ... you will want some to avoid setback.

you only flare the case enough so the bullet will start in the case with your fingers, and i agree you need to seat the bullet deeper and taper crimp all semi auto cases when loaded. your reloading manual would have explaned all this.

I flare the case just enough so the bullet will barely manage to sit atop the case without falling off the case as I let go of it to seat it. You don't need to flare much at all.

Bullet is seated at 1.250, and crimped. cycles great.
Now I only have to decide on how much Bullseye to use for this load. Any one have a favorit charge?

How about 4 grains

Follow your load book. Go on line and look around for start at, and max. load for that weight. Good luck in your reloading. I'd say 32 grains would work well......NOT!!!!
I used 3.5-3.7 grains for a 185 lswc for bullseye competition. Just be safe working up your own load as your gun will shoot different than others to a degree.

The book has 3 loads for the 230 grain, and ill end up with another stack loads for testing. Our rain festival started last month, and im heading into finals after next week so ill have no idea when I get find what load works.

I run 6 grains of unique. makes for a nice warmed up TCFP evil pill for all reasons.

That'll work. I use 4.2gr of BE because that's my Auto Disc's next stop up from 3.8gr.
