SO, I am working up a load for the S&W 637 snubby, I have all the garden variety powders, But want to Load 125 gn. Hornady XTP with W-231 or Bullseye, I have several manuals, and subscribed to loaddata.com, But would like some real people input.
3.2 gns. of Bullseye shoots well with all 158 gn. Oregon Trail Lead. through the snubby,
I loaded 4 gns. of Bullseye with the Hornady 125 XTP, But I did not get the accuracy I was seeking.
Any suggestions for the snubby in 125 gn. Hornady XTP?
Paul

Welcome to the forum.

Why would you bring back a 4 year old thread when you could have started a new thread and have it focus on your question and yours alone.

I load 4.7grs of W231 for +P 158gr Speer LSWCHP and LSWC bullets, Winchester case and WSP primers. These are pretty much right at Winchesters factory +P 158gr LSWCHP velocity (890fps) from a 4" barrel with a chrono'd average or 892 fps from my S&W 67.

For general shooting at paper I usually load 4.3 to 4.5grs with 158gr RN and SWC lead and 3.1grs with 148gr HBWC's.

Perfect timing of the resurrection of this thread! I recently decided to find out just how much 231 I could load with the 158 gr. SWC before I got sticky extraction in my Model 64 snub. I got to 5.1 grs. and all was fine. When I got to 5.2 grs. the extraction was suddenly noticeably problematic. I haven't shot these over the chrono yet but I'm thinking 5.1 grs. should be good for right around 900 FPS in the 2" barrel. That's decent performance, but past experience shows that Power Pistol can beat this by about 30 FPS in the same revolver.

I cast Lyman 358156 which come to 160g from WW.

No GC for Specials and I load them over 4.5g W231/HP38.

Very accurate for me in my J and K frames.

No difference in accuracy and no leading from either. And a little trimming brings a Lee Dipper to 3.5 gr.
My experience as well with 10K+ of these loaded. The loads above 4 grains become 'unfun' to me due to the recoil. So I settled in the 3.5 to 3.7 gr range for target shooting.

I load 3.7 231 for both the 148 WC and 158 SWC. Great soft rounds for PPC and extremely accurate. While at a match one time I stood behind one fella who was shooting really light loads, no idea what. You could actually see the bullet fly towards the target if you were directly behind him. The arc was pretty too. I think I could have thrown them faster.
