Warning-- Dillon Precision!!!!!!
I want to warn everyone and encourage them not to purchase any Dillon products unless they are really ready to accept and experience their no BS warranty and outstanding Customer Service.
.
I have been dealing with Dillon Precision since 1984 and purchase the RL650 when it first came out. Over the years I have had minor problems with it that was normally resolved over the telephone and the arrival of some small parts in the mail.
.
Two weeks ago my 650 ran into what I considered a major problem. The ram would only raise to within 2 inches of the dies and stop. I disassembled the machine, lube and checked everything, reassembled it and No joy the same problem existed. I repeated the disassembles and reassembly again without any joy.
.
Remember this machine is over 15 years old.
.
I boxed it up and sent it to Dillon with a detailed letter of what I was experiencing. Since it was the Christmas season I was guarding my credit card spending waiting for Dillon to call me and tell me what it was going to cost for repairs. I didn't disassemble the 650 when I sent in to them because I wanted them to see exactly what is was doing.
Today it arrived. No cost covered under warranty. they included a list of part they replaced. Now there is unexpected Joy.
.
That is the reason that on my reloading bench resides, two 650's, a 550b, that has been upgraded from a 450 years ago, a Dillon electric scale, a Dillon Beam scale. and a Dillon primer pocket swagger. All the reloaders are equipped with the Dillon low primer warning system and the Dillon powder check system. I also use the Dillon Dies. I had been using the other brand named dies in the Dillon presses but had determined that for flawless operation the Dillon dies was what I preferred. I still use the other named brand dies when I use my single stage press.
.
Kudos to Dillon for their Customer Service
PS I had a large Dillon Vibratory Case Cleaner that only lasted 27 years and had more then 1,000,000 cases ran through it. Replaced under warranty in 2011

I don't own any Dillon products. But I've NEVER heard anything bad about the products or the company.
My reloading outfit is mostly Hornady...and single-stage. No complaints there, either.
If I ever do move up to a progressive press, it would be a Dillon. I just don't do enough reloading to justify it at this time.

Bought an old well-used FL-2000 vibe tumbler at a flea market that needed some parts. A call to Dillon got the parts shipped free of any charge.

Another thumbs-up for Dillon. I've been dealing with them since 1985. They are a class act, both in the quality of the product and the support. I run a 1000, 3 of the 1050s, and a 550. None of them ever needed repair, but I lost a part once - and a free replacement was in my hands 2 days later.

I too bought a 650 when it first came out. I sent it in a couple years ago to be gone over. Dillon completely updated it, replacing all of the outdated parts. It had an invoice in the box with a detail of the price of the upgrade.
The amount due was 0.00. I will forever buy and recommend Dillon to everyone I know.

Here's a Dillon product they neglected to warranty, so you can't say everything is covered.
This is "zero" after it had been left on continuously for a week. Basically what is known as a piece of junk.

No surprise here ...
When I saw the title of this thread I wasn't fooled. I suspected it was a joke.
I've owned a Dillon 550 press for about 10 years, and it has made a jillion rounds - almost totally jam free. Awesome! I've also found that Dillon tech support is the best you'll find anywhere, and their product knowledge is outstanding.
In fact, the whole reloading industry is a very good example of what customer service should be. It's too bad other business industries don't have this high level of customer service.

Greetings
Bought my first 550 in 1987 and since bought another 550 and a Square Deal to load 45ACP. It is tough dealing with a company that backs up thier products with a real garente.

Well, I'm not surprised. And I'm not even surprised about the one item in the thread that isn't covered!
Maybe Dillon didn't make the scale and therefore cannot cover it under their warranty. I too have had nothing but good from their customer service ALTHOUGH I did have to pay to have a Square Deal brought up to current standards, seems it was $40 or something. I paid for shipping one way, they paid for the return. I didn't care as I bought it used for around $150 and still had less than $250 when all was said and done.
I think son in law #2 has that one.

Warning SMURFS!
They specifically say that electronics are only 1 year.
Skip in the center with a beard.

I had a problem with the same Dillon digital scales. Dillon said that its warranty was one year on that particular unit. That's not too bad for electronics.
I also found that they sold some of those units at super bargain prices, and with a limited warranty. The warranty of these units depands on the serial number.
I was able to easily fix my scales by disassembling it, cleaning it, and putting it back together. I've put my Dillon scale through 5 lifetimes of tough use, and after a 10 minute repair - it's still working today.

At some point, I think I wouldn't have the stones to ask for a replacement.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I have a few Dillon products...Their large 2000 vibra-tumbler was used heavily for years. Well finally the motor went south...I tried to find a new motor but nothing to fit locally.
I contacted Dillon to see about a replacement motor, they advised that they don't sell the motors, bla, bla, bla...
BUT! they advised to mail the machine back to the Dillon and a check for $69 and they would fix me up...That they did, they sent out a Brand Spanking New CV2001 as a replacement!
So yes they have great customer service!

So what was wrong??
One of my 650s is an original going back to the early 90s so I'm really curious about the fix.

I know a fella who DROPPED his 650 and bent a part. He called Dillon about getting the part and was told they didn't make that part any more. He was requested to send the press in and they would fix it. Came back a couple weeks later rebuilt to the latest specs and no charge. Good customer service? Yep.

I still can't ask for parts I broke or wore out myself. I think their "No BS Warranty" is a direct reflection of their pricing. I can't figure a company model that can keep this up forever without a continuing trend in ever growing pricing. At some point they will have to drop the No BS or they will price themselves out of the market. They still make a great product, but the prices are getting up there.

I have had them replace some parts that I have been stupid and broke, not a fault of the part. When that happens I normally will buy something else at the same time just because. I think I am not alone in this and thats what they rely on.

I have no idea. It wouldn't lift the ram/shell plate up far enough for the cases to enter the dies.
I disassembled it, lube it and reassembled it, NO joy still wouldn't go. removed the tool/die head and it still wouldn't go. I left everything except the die head attached as it was and shipped the machine to them.
They didn't tell me what was wrong but did send me a voucher with a list of parts that they replaced. In looking over the replacement parts I didn't find anything that would have cause the problem.
It could have been a combination of all of them and no one part in particular

Sounds familiar.
I got screwed by Dillon the first time I called to get a warranty replacement part for my RL-550B. I had stripped the threads for the primer holder. They refused to allow me to pay for shipping for this free replacement subassembly.
I learned my lesson: Now I always have something I want to order from the catalog when I need warranty replacement parts, that way I pay for shipping.
That'll fix'em!!!

I bought my first 550 around twenty-five years ago. I can't say enough about Dillon's Customer Service and Support. There has never been a charge to replace any part that has worn out or broken (even when I explained that it was MY fault!).
Their reputation is better advertising than any ads they could buy!

I bought my first reloading press when the 450 first came out. That was a steep learning curve for a novice who had never been exposed to any reloading at all.
I soon upgraded it with their parts to the 550, used it nearly 20 years, then sold it for more than I paid in the first place.
That financed a large part of upgrading to my 650.
They have never been anything but helpful, courteous, and professional. They get all my reloading orders because of their no BS policy.
If .gov worked as well as Dillon.precision we'd all be happy.

Anyone remember that "Ayoob Files" article in American Handgunner years ago where the robbers (or store owner) of a gun store shot a Dillon reloader with a shotgun during a robbery? The gun store sent it back to Dillon and Dillon replaced it free of charge.
A couple months later, a Dillon manager wrote a letter to the AH editor that was printed saying they had the shot up reloader "somewhere around here"!
Outstanding service, as usual.

They do say the electronics are covered for a year, but who expects their Dillon digital scale to **** out after only a year or so? They did tell me they'd take mine back and sell me a new one for $80.00, but I didn't go for it. I found a used RCBS for $35.00 and it's still going strong.
Boo and hiss to Dillon electronic scales.

Worked in a reloading company, we loaded standard pistol stuff on Ammo Loads. Everything else on Dillons. Many times broken/damaged/just plain worn out parts were replaced no charge. Thats why I crank my 550 and smile

Good News!
One of my best buds had his house burn to the ground with his 550 in the gun room. It was found in the basement in a glob of melted alloy. He called Dillon and they told him to send it in and they replaced it for free. Absolutely no charge.
I imagine they wanted him to return the blob so that they could determine if it was indeed one of their presses.

I purchased a used 650 last spring. When I got it home and set it up a few minor parts were missing. I called Dillon and they took care of me. Wouldn't it be nice if more manufacturers stood behind their products and treated their customers as well as Dillon.

Just a reminder, the Dillon 1050 or the Dillon Super 1050 "ARE NOT COVERED BY THEIR "NO BS WARRANTY" and I'm talking the very smallest spring that goes on them. Mike Dillon decided they are considered "COMMERCIAL LOADERS", which many of us DO NOT DO COMMERCIAL RELOADING. WE USE IT BECAUSE WE WOULD RATHER SHOOT THAN LOAD. I have been a customer since 1979, when I bought my first DILLON RL1000, THAT WAS A SOLID STAINLESS LOADER. At one time Mike wanted it back because the serial number on it was #121............CookE......

In most states I think that is still called solicitation and illegal. Not too sure I want them going out of business just right now as I have a bunch of their stuff and may have warranty issues.
And their stuff is good enough without the smut.

Smut, What SMUT? Those tender morsels of EYE CANDY are good for a mans soul. Mike's reloaders and his calendars along with the Blue Press are just fine with me.
Keep up the Great Work Mr Dillon.

I screwed up the small primer magazine orifice a couple months back and it wouldn't drop primers. I called Dillon, told him what I needed and he said they would mail. I said here's my credit card, and he said no charge, covered under warranty. I explained that I broke it and Dillon shouldn't cover something I did. He said "No, it's covered under warranty. Have a nice day." Two days later, a small package from Dillon arrived with 3 each of the small and large orifices.
When they say No BS warranty, they mean it. I learned to reload from a buddy who has a 550. Why would I get anything else? Thanks to Dillon for great customer service.
I have noticed most gun related companies do have excellent customer service. I've dealt with Midway, Brownells, Top Gun Supply and they have all been excellent. Maybe it's that us gun folks are just old-fashioned decent people?

Thanks to babavincent for reviving this thread.
Just a quick comment on Dillon's current situation. They are apparently overwhelmed with calls and sales during this unbelievable ammo panic. I tried to call last week to discuss my primer feeding problem on my oldest 650. I could not even get the answering machine...only a busy signal.
So if you're needing operating help, try the Enos forum. Lots of experienced reloaders to help figure it out with you.
Oh yeah...my problem was due to accumulated crud...never underestimate the value of cleanliness!!

Yep, they got me the first time I called with a warranty issue - I broke/stripped out the threads on the primer assembly by over tightening them, totally my fault.
I called them, started to explain what happened and got *rudely* interrupted with the tech asking for my address so he could ship out a new one to me - free!
They got me that time, but never again! Now, if I have to - very rarely - call for warranty service, I always have a few other things I need so that i can piggy back them onto the warranty order - and pay for shipping. They're not getting away with that again!!! Ha Ha, take that Dillon!!!!

I've been reloading on a Star Universal Progressive for almost thirty-five years and haven't broken anything yet.
I also use Dillon equipment and their customer service has been nothing short of superb, even when the press needing help was a 1050.
RCBS has been at least the equal of Dillon when has come to my parts/service needs.
I think most of the reloading equipment companies will bend over backwards, even sideways, to make a reasonable customer happy.
Regards.
Bob

Guy recommended them to me. I haven't came up with the cash for a dillon press yet but his customer service story was how he found one in pieces in a box at a gun show. He slapped a shipping label on the box, told them what was going on and had a brand new press arrive after a week or two and he just paid for shipping.

Timely update to this thread. I have not been shooting much lately due to work and the shortage of all things shooting. I did set out to reload some on Monday only to find that my case slide had stripped out the helicoil insert. It took almost an hour of redialed calls just to get on hold and over an hour on hold to talk to a rep. Of course less then a minute after that the call was done and the new part headed my way.
This is in no way a slam on Dillon, they were great as always, it just shows you how nuts this shortage has gotten. I don't think I have ever waited more then a couple minutes for any call in the last 20 years before.

I too am along time Dillon user.I have two 550s, one for large and one for small primer loading. One I bought as a well used 450 that Big Blue upgraded to a 550 for minimal cost. I wore out a kinetic bullet puller they replaced gratis. In these days of cutbacks and cost shaving, Dillon continues to be a testimony to what a company can and should do to for its customers. Can you please all the people all the time? Ofcourse not, but Dillon comes close.

Well Beans that's good to hear,
how 'bout I bring my power Dillon case trimmer to Saturday's shoot and you can try and get them to replace the blown motor, maybe they know you better and will swap it out for a working model.- it failed just a couple months out of the 1 yr warrantee and they refused to do anything about it except offer to sell me another for about $200. It had hardly been used at the time (about 5 years ago).
I haven't had any problems with any of their other stuff but this one left a bad taste in my mouth.

Just read in their Blue Press a letter from a customer who sent in his Square Deal press that was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. Replaced at no charge. That is great customer service and a true no BS warranty.
Besides, their equipment works very well.

Well as far as Dillons policies..if I wear out a part..I almost always order something I have to "have" but not all that often I need a part. I dropped the priming assembly from one of my 1050s and bent it..Actually had the steel tube bend..Had an extra from somewhere. Dillon sent me a new aluminum primer mag tube and 2 ends for free..and it was my fault. So I just ordered 2 more die sets..another carbide 223 and a carbide 308 set. I have and use 4 Super 1050s 1 650 and 4 550Bs. I also have a new 650 but think I will send it down the road. I much prefer the Super 1050s. I also have 3 of their tumblers a 500 750 and a 2000 primer pocket swager and a Dillon electronic scale. Great company and great machines. Had a couple SL 900s too..but sold 'em cause i use a Spolar for most of my shotshell loading.
