Default Can 223 be reloaded on Lee Turret Press?

Title says it all. I have a Lee turret, and I'm thinking of reloading for 223/5.56. Do I need to go back to my old single stage, or weill the Lee turret press do the trick?

You can use the Lee. Just as a caution though, make sure you use case lube or you will spend most of your time unsticking cases from the resizing die!

The only thing I have found to work reliably is the old RCBS II and a pad. Stay away from the canned spray lubes. I had nothing but trouble with them. Also, I tried to use Imperial Sizing Wax, to no avail OTHER THEN on the case mouth. I turn my cases over and push the mouth into the can of wax so the sizing of the neck can be done with less force and less stretching. This really works well for me.

YMMV

I use the Lee lube in a tube...works great. Also, you may want to get the RCBS Small Base dies, these really narrow down the cases. I had trouble with the Lee .223 dies.

I have had great results with both RCBS & Cabela's spray on lubes. I keep the brass in a zip lock baggie, spray it a few times, then pick one out at a time.

I load .223 on a Lee Turret press. I lube cases with soap.

I've been loading 223's on a 3-hole Lee Turret for decades, never had any problems with the setup. The pump-spray bottles of Lanolin/Alcohol lube sold by Dillon and a dozen others have always worked well. Hose the brass down, shake the box, spray them again, and give them a few minutes. I tumble them after sizing/decapping to get all the lube off.

If you roll your cases on a pad with RCBS II, every cases is sure to be lubed and they won't stick in your die. I use a Lee cast iron turret with small base dies for stuff shot out of an AR. Otherwise, I use Lee dies with no problems from either brand.

Like Skip, I've had stuck cases with spray on lubes and Imperial wax. Anhydrous Lanolin works well with just a little on your fingers as you handle the cases in the loading process.

I have used my Classic Turret press to reload .223 ammo along with the double-disk kit to throw the correct powder charge. BUT, because of the differences between loading rifle and handgun brass I didn't really get an advantage so I went back to batch reloading with the single stage. (or using the turret press without the auto-index rod as a single stage press)

Sure you can. For the volume shooter, it certainly beats a ss press w/ less cost than a progressive. I have no issues w/ Hornady OneSHot on my 550B. Just follow directions exactly. You must shake the can well, you must let the lube dry. Try sizing when the cases are still wet & they will stick.

Having used many cans of Hornaday One Shot I can tell that for me it works great. I too use a large zip lock bag, spray generously and tumble let set for a short time and then start loading.

I have never seen or heard of a stuck casing using Imperial sizing wax....wow!
