Besides some 22's, shot two vintage 32SWL revolvers, and a pre-model 10 NYPD 38, along with a J frame - lots of fun - the I frame 32 target pistol has basically zero recoil and is a tack driver - not bad for something about 85 years young!

Had some 44 Spl & 44 Mag cases ready to go so decided to try some of the Berry's 240 CPL-FP. put together 4 loads to try...
For the 44 Spl I used 6.5 Herco and 6.7 Unique
For the Mag I used 11.2 Herco and 10.6 Unique

I could only get a light crimp since they don't have a cannelure so I'm skeptical if I'll be using these again for 44. Will see how they chronograph when the weather warms a bit.

Yeah, I talked to my mom last night. She lives in Yuma and says it is almost unbearable there. 45*F at night and only 60*F something in the daytime!

Wowsers! Cold!

Yeah the low desert is warm isn't it.... up a little in elevation (like where I live) it has been in the low teens and 20's at night and mid to high 30's during the day. At least it's not Flagstaff !
But hey - I know I have no excuse - it's still sunny out and the roads are dry.

People look at you crazy when you tell them it gets cold and snowy in Arizona!

We went through Flagstaff one summer. Stayed in a campground by a lake, St. Mary's I think, and the operator of the campground said that where our tent was, during December, there had been 3 feet of snow!

I remember the animal sign all around there too. Elk, deer. Lots of droppings, rubs and such. Pretty cool too!

I need to get back out to see my mom. Been a few years and neither one of us is getting any younger!

Default Howdy

Hi Skip,
I have been working with the 25-2 to see if I could get as good as groups out of it, as say a 6" 586 or K-38.
Out of almost two dozen loads I have two that shoot pretty good.
This is one of them. This load shot a .75 five shot group at 25 yards.
I normally test with ten shot groups but only had five of these loaded.
I'm loading more today to test and be sure it was not a fluke.

The other best load is a 185 grain swaged bullet that put ten into a little less that t picture.1 3/4".
You can see the specific load data in the 1961-1980 revolver section.
Model 25-2 accuracy?.
I need to shoot some at fifty yards too. It is a mild load.
Thanks
Mike

Hi Folks,
I got out and tested this load today. It did not hold up to a ten shot group, throwing seven into a inch but three fliers opened thing up to 2 1/2" .....Just OK.
Plus, they don't hold up at 50 yards.
Sorry.
Mike

I loaded up some Rim Rock 158 gr. LSWC-WN(357 loads) in front of 6.0 gr of Unique. The accuracy of this load impresses me(although not as impressive as the post above me) . Probably going shooting when it warms up in a couple days, assuming there is not too much snow to get to my winter shooting range.

No range time on this eve. But instead loaded 42 grains of IMR 3031 and Moyers hard cast 405s sparked by Federal LR primers. Getting ready for the coming new BFR 7.5" and my great shooting Encore rifle.

124 gr Berry's Plated 9 mm HP over 3.8 gr of Titegroup.

New-to-me Remington primers are the ticket to solve the smearing problem I used to have with CCI. I'm guessing the problem was due to the mixed range brass, dirty charge holes and hard primers

I loaded some smoke poles! Took the wife, her pink accented Endeavor topped with a Nikon Omega scope, my Encore with the same glass and a full can of Blackhorn 209, some Hornady black sabots, Hornady .452" 250gr FTX bullets, some of my cast .452" boolits, and headed to the range.

I also did some "comparison" testing with Hornady green sabots and lead bullets just to see how the two compared.

Had a super hard time getting my gun to shoot well, hers came right into line.

Ran out of powder so now, I need to get another can of that stuff. One thing I could do that surprised me, run a second shot right down the full length of the barrel. Can't do that with the Triple 7 pellet loads I had shot to sight it in with open sights!

More to come!

I spent most of the morning at the range shooting an old 1911 .45 Government model, an old original 1911 version, US marked with 5 digit SN. Beauty of an older gun, fairly accurate too for its age. I wanted to get in one more day of working with this fine old pistol before the end of the year, seeing as how it's the 100th anniversary of the adoption of this pistol as the Army's sidearm. Fun day. Shot most of a .50 caliber can of ammo. Now I need to do some reloading.

Loaded 100 rnds of .38 snubby practice loads--158LSWCHP over 2.7 grs Trailboss.
Also working up a standard pressure defense load for my alloy framed Colt snubbies--looking for around 750 fps with the 158gr LSWCHP (Speer)....trying 4.2.gr Unique and 4.5 gr Unique....down from 4.7 gr that is my standard defense load.Unique load data is all over the map so it takes some tweaking. Planning to shoot and chronograph them on Saturday.

Finally got around to setting up my dillon 650 for 45acp. Shot about 75 rounds to make sure it was a good load before I went into production.

Yesterday, I tried out my initial starting load of 10 rounds for 9mm.

Bullet: 115gr plated RN from Berry's.
Powder: 5gr. of Unique
Primer: CCI small pistol primers
OAL: 1.165"

All 10 rounds fired & ejected properly, and recoil was typical from what I experienced from my 5906.

Got the RCBS berdan depriming tool and some Tula 7.62 Berdan primers. In middle of loading up some 7.62x51 berdan cases to see if it is worth it. Got lots of saved berdan cases. Have about 50 cases prepped and primed, probably try some 748 in them.

Having never loaded up max power 44 mag 240 jhp, also did some of those with 296 and Hdy 240 xtp's. Next up in 44 mag will be 180 xtps with V V N110. Any suggestions certainly welcome.

Tried out the new carbide cutters RCBS makes for their power trimmer and case prep station. Much better than the steel versions, especially the case mouth inside/outside chamfering cutters

Yesterday I added powder and set bullets to finish up my first 300 rounds of .40 S&W. I had shot 10 rounds of same formula a few days earlier and they shot perfectly.

Bullet: 155gr Hornady XTP
Powder: 6grs of Universal
Primer: CCI SPP
OAL: 1.125"

Loaded up some 38 special 170gr Keith SWC's, to test new liquid lube formula, no leading, very little smoke, and carbon was removed with wet patch. It's still not perfect, but it's getting there. I had the formula down before but lost my notes!!!!!

First time reloading since 1997...loaded up 5 .44 specials with 240 gr Speer SWC over 4.7 gr HP38 to begin working up a .44 spl plinking/target load. Took 'em out to the desert and they all went bang! WooHoo! This is fun! Had to stop at 5 rounds as my sizing die started scratching cases (forgot about lubing cases for non-carbide dies) anyway, don't want to ruin any more of my precious .44 spl brass so I'm going to wait on that one until I get the die situation squared away...mmm...what to do , what to do...I do believe I have some .45 Colt components laying around here somewhere....

To the range with 3 revolvers: 18-4, 15-4, 29-3
50 rounds .22 to warm up..
..then 50 rounds of 38 to warm up more..
..finally 200 rounds of 44 to beat my wrist to a quivering pulp.

Enjoyed every minute of it, too!

Loading a batch of .455 Webley. Hornady brass, Remington 250 grain swaged lead bullet atop 4.5 grains HP-38. Primers are Magtech LP.

I use these in a WW I vintage 2nd Model HE that saw service with the British army in France.

Well, I have this new Tommy gun and I thought I would be smart and put a sight rail on it. Yes, 45ACP! And, it has the only available used scope on it that I had in house at the time. A 4X9X50mm Simmons! It is a funny looking thing to be sure!

Well, I started out with some 230gr plated RN bullets that I had and AA#7, to take advantage of the longer barrel and couldn't get that thing to group at all! Pattern was more like it!

So, I went back home and loaded up some of my Miha 200gr Cramer HP and a healthy heaping helpin' of AA#7, trying to take advantage of the longer barrel, and headed to the range. This bullet has proven to be MOCP (minute of clay pigeon) accurate @ 50 yards before so, I thought I was going to have some good results. I did. My expectations were logical though so, I didn't hope for too much. I was pleasantly surprised.

The little beauties came out of that barrel right at 1250fps and at 50 yards were easily inside of 1"! I thought, HEY, now that's cool!
I thought I would push my luck, so to speak, and stretch things out to 100 yards. Again, I was pleasantly surprised! Just a smidge over 2" at that distance! Now, that, is WAY COOL!

With the BC of the bullet though, it is 3" high @ 50 yards to hit right on @ 100. That's okay for now as I can use the top post of my scope to put it dead on.

If the ballistics calculator is right, and my BC is close, those little gems will still be doing 950fps @ 100 yards. 200gr, 950fps, now listen, that is still better than most 40 S&W handguns @ the barrel!

Now THAT IS WAY, WAY, COOL!

Had a chance to test some new loads today in .38 Special. The 110gr XTP with a generous helping of 231 was a lot of fun! Lots of bark and fire with little recoil. Quite accurate too in my favorite Airweight.

Setup a Lee Auto Disk on my Lyman T Mag for loading .41 Magnum with my beloved powder Unique. For $25 I have to say it throws a nice consistent charge.

No shooting or reloading, but I have a short action Savage centerfire to smokeless muzzleloader conversion that needed to be redone. I had a custom breechplug in it that accepted shortened cases as a primer carrier using the original boltface, but I must have used a couple loose ones because it got flame-cut in a couple places and ruined.

Fortunately a machinist friend with similar interests made a custom bolt head to carry 209 primers and use the factory Savage muzzleloader plug, so I got one and put mine together. Took an hour of fiddling to get it headspaced just right, but now I'm ready to shoot bambi again.
