Default Lee Auto Disk Powder Measure

I am setting up my first press, Lee 4 hole Turret press. I already discovered I do not like the auto index feature and removed the bar for it. Anyway, I am setting up the Auto Disk Powder Measure. How far up into the die should your casing go? Mine seem to go about 2/3 of the way in. Is that normal? It does actuate the powder measure at that height. Thanks

I have always just followed the directions. Screw the die in until it touches the shell holder. Then unscrew it one full turn. Adjust the die for the amount case mouth expansion desired. They work like a champ once they are locked down into the turret and they don't move.

What is it about the auto indexing feature that you don't care for? I love that feature.

The powder die flares and dumps the powder, as long as you flare is where you want it and the powder drops you are good to go. It probably varies by the caliber. To be honest I have never check that. Say a 357 may be different than a 9mm.

However, I have mine set for 9mm right now and the case goes almost to the shell holder. I have the extension on it as I use the press primer system so that might make a difference.

Take the powder hopper(after turning it off and pulling the handle several times with a empty case to avoid a big mess) off . Now lower the ram and see if the disc hole goes completely over the drop hole. If so and the flare is OK than it should be fine.

I didn't care for the Auto-Index feature either, and neutered my press to single-stage the day I bought it. That was 30 years ago, and I haven't missed it yet. I prep my brass away from the press, but if I start with primed brass I can still load 300 rounds an hour.

You might want to look into the Adjustable Charge Bar that Lee offers, I had a dozen of the Auto-Disk powder measures, but upgraded most of them to the "Pro" configuration, it's a much better mousetrap.

Lee Precision: Powder Measure Accessories

As was said earlier, as long as your brass is actuating the measure properly, you're good to go.

What Rule3 said.
I would not be using the auto-index at this point either. But as soon as you have all the procedures down, you will increase your production signifantly just by inserting that little rod.
