Default 125 gr loads for 38?

Is there a good load for 38special using clays? Is it a good idea to use these in a k frame S & W?

Clays and a 125gr cast FP makes a pretty good load. I usually go for Bullseye though. The recommendation to avoid 125gr .38 bullets mostly applies to hot 357 Magnum loads.

I have three 38spl's with fixed sights, the sights are regulated for heavier bullets. I tried 125gr bullets with W-231, Bullseye and AA#5 they shoot to low in my guns so I gave up on the 125gr bullets. I have had good results with 140gr bullets, I mostly shoot 148-158gr in these guns.

I like the 158 gr for 38 spl. The 125 gr was a problem for the 357 K- frames.

I recently tried from 4.2 to 4.8 grains (of HP38) in my Mod 10, behind 125 grn Rem. soft-point/ hollow point bullets. Stellar results - 40 shots into a 2.5" x 3.5" area, at 10 yards.

I normally only shoot 158 grn cast in my 38's, which always give good accuracy.

I agree 125gr jhp with 4.5gr bullseye shoots about 3'low. STILL looking for the perfect 158gr lead bullet for my 681.

Hodgdon lists a charge range of 3.5gr to 3.9gr Clays under a 125gr Hornady XTP bullet. You will have to find the charge weight that will deliver the most accurate ammo in your revolver.

Always check data you get from a forum for yourself. Cartridge Loads - Hodgdon Reloading Data Center - data.hodgdon.com

I shoot 3.2 clays. Close to the same recoil as bullseye. I use a 148-160 gr, lead wc--swc--& bn. 2 1/2"--4"--6"--auto or wheel gun. Works good in all.
