Default .45 Short Colt

High Folks.

Im just a newbie when it comes to Smiths.

My many .45 Blackhawks and 1911s had served my purposes before I lost my right arm in an accident.

So I begin my lust affair with double action revolvers.

I just bought a 625JM ACP.

I think the moon clips make it like loading a single shot.

One lefty motion in and one lefty motion out and no brass on the floor.

ACP in a JM Colt ... How about a Colt in my JM ACP?

A cylinder in .45 Colt can be cut down to fit the barrel extension into the frame.

Then loading and extraction would be more typical.

Could the Colt brass be trimmed to fit and loaded nearly the same?

Sure, why not.

Now I have Keith style lswc 225 grainers for plinking through my 'made for lead' barrel.

Any thoughts on powder brands or where I could get lighter wadcutters?

Thanks.

BTW, who do I see about getting another cylinder?

LOL, from the title I thought you were going to talk about the 40 S&W Schofield round which was shorter then the then Standard 45 COLT(no such thing as a "Long" Colt) but looks like your thread is about something else entirely,LOL.

If I have you right I think there already is what you're looking for, it's called the .45 Auto Rim. The .45AR is an almost exact clone of the .45 ACP but for the rim on the case that allows it to be loaded in a revolver without moon clips and has been around for a very long time.

EDIT

If you haven't gotten one yet, one of the moon clip tools a re a blessing. I like mine from mooncliptool.com

I have a pair of 625's in .45 ACP and shoot them about 5000-7500 rounds per year.

If all you want is factory ballistics with the .45 Colt you can actually get that with the .45 ACP or .45 Auto Rim. Just load a Lyman 454424 (250 gr Keith bullet) at 900+fps and you are there (the 625 will handle loads safely and long term up to .45 ACP +P pressures at 23,000 psi or so). Here is a picture of my .45 Auto rims loaded with an NOE clone of the Lyman bullet:

You can get .45 Auto Rim brass from Starline Brass. I just took delivery of another 1000 cases.

Further, with your disability, you will find RIMZ polymer full moon clips MUCH easier to use (you need no tools, just use your fingers). I haven't tried to load them with one hand but believe I could without issue:

Ez Moon Clips

Keep in mind that there are two types of Rimz clips for the .45 ACP. Be sure to order them exactly for your model of Smith revolver.

Good luck and good shooting.

Welcome to the forum!! They say "Fear the man with one gun!" Shall we say the same about you and the arm? Sounds like you are well on your way to fitting in here. Good luck and keep us posted about your solution. Regards, Sprefix

Thanks for your kind welcome folks.

I was just trying to consider a convertible weapon like the Blackhawk w/ ACP and Colt cylinders for my new 625JM.
