Default RCBS Primer Pocket Swager Combo

I was all set to buy this in the next wishlist order, but I now see that it's been dropped by RCBS...

Is that to say they are about to make a better one? It wasn't that great? It was a bad product???

What gives???

Primer Pocket Swager Combo

Out of 77 reviews it still has a 4.5 out of 5 so it seems like it can't be that bad. But the big green of reloading doesn't seem to drop something unless something is up...

I need this for a growing pile of crimped primer pocket .223 cases and would really like to reload them.

I have one. It works well but I have better things to do than mess with primer pockets so I bought a bunch of commercial NON crimped brass.

You can borrow it if you want or before anyone else says it.

Just buy the Dillon which is so much, more, way better!

Actually I am sure it is at least faster. You deserve the best!

Somehow I knew big blue would be the first option thrown at me!!!

If the thing didn't cost a hundred bucks for what looks like it shouldn't cost anywhere near that much...

But I guess I can drag it behind my car and say I need a new one and they will give me one. If that should ever happen...

For the price of the Dillon you can buy 1000 rds of prepped cleaned brass with no primer crimp delivered. Why bother??

The reason the model you show is discontinued is because it has been replaced with an improved version: swage combo 2.

I have swaged well over 20K with my RCBS swage and never bent the rod. I have a Dillon swager that sits unused in the box. I just like the RCBS swager better.

Why mess around with once fired when you can get this for $30 more than the once fired stuff? I bought a 1000 and am very happy with it's consistency.

BTW, I have an earlier model of the RCBS swager and it works fine as long as you set it up correctly.

Hobie

Interesting! The new, and supoosedly improved, Swage Combo 2 looks exactly like the old RCBS set I have had for about 40 years. The only difference is when they made mine it came as large or small, and you had to buy the other support rod and button separately.

I have no idea how many thousands of cases I have swaged with mine with never having damaged a support rod.

The only bent rod I ever had to replace was when I loaned the tool to someone!

If you haven't learned this little life's lesson, never loan tools, books, guns, fishing gear, bullet moulds or your wife to anyone, for any reason, and not necessarily in that order!!!!!!!! None on these items will ever come back in the same condition as when you loaned them.

I have the original RCBS Swager Combo and it works just fine. While I have never bent a rod I know there are those who do if they adjust the depth incorrectly. It's too bad they increased the price of the tool by 25% just because they made the rods harder. I bought mine for only ~$20 when it was on sale. It looks like the new one is $40.

To all who have asked why not just buy prepped or new brass....

Because this stuff was free!!!! And I still find it from time to time and have people that send it to me as "care packages" for my addiction...

I didn't know they are now making a new version. Now I have to look at that as an option.

My only real issue against the Dillon unit is it's yet another thing to bolt down. I guess I really need to get one of Pat Marlin's Rock Docks.

Well if you were a "real" reloader just get the little reamer tool for a few bucks and cut the damn things out.

The original one, and from the looks of it, the new one will not work with a large size ram, like the old CH, the Lee and probably others. It will also not work on the Lee Classic Turret because of the size of the ram and because of the turret rotating devise at the top of the ram.
I had a large washer welded to mine years ago to make it strip the case on my CH.

Look Bob, RCBS is making one (soon) like Dillons.

Bench Mounted Primer Pocket Swager

My version #9495 works fine and I do not see much difference between it and the new version 2. For 223 it appears the same, I guess the new one does more calibers> But the orginal has a large and small insert so I am

Absolutely true! The only tools I have ever lost are those I loaned to friends who promised they would return them. I have broken a few but I was asking more of them than they were intended for.

I have limited space on my reloading bench. What I do is mount my small tools that can be bolted down on a piece of double length 2X4 and when I need to use one I clamp the end of the 2X4 to the bench. It's very stable and easily removable for storage. (it's the cheap in me lol)

I had my original single stage press mounted to a 3/4" piece of plywood and c clamped it down to the table.

Now Bob would need a piece of 100 year old, finished Oak with a hand rubbed finish and mitered/beveled edges.
