Traditionally I've loaded 250g RNFP or 255g Keith HC for my .45 Colt. I haven't fired a 200g projectile out of my 25-13 in years, but as I recall, there was a major deviation between POA/POI. They were Corbon 200g JHP.

I'm tempted to revisit the 200g bullets again so I could share the same projectile with my .45 ACP pistols. Anybody have any experience on the matter? Load recommendations that might close the POA/POI gap?

The only reason I don't simply adjust my sight for the 200g is that I carry this pistol as a woods gun and prefer a stout 255g Keith for those purposes.

Sir, I used to shoot a lot of cast 200-grain RNFPs over 8.0 grains of Unique in .45 Colt. They printed much closer to the sights of my 25-9 than 250s did.

I don't know that there's really a good way to close the POA/POI gap between the two bullet weights. You can try very light powder charges with the 200s, but there's a definite floor to that. Was it me, I'd just adjust the rear sight and record the settings for both 200s and 250s.

Look for a recipe that will push that 200 gr bullet at the same velocity as the 255.That should get you close.

I've preferred 200 g LRN for 45 Cowboy Action matches for years.

Of course with a full case of Trail Boss they still have a respectable albeit moderate rating.

Way easier when I was suffering carpal tunnel syndrome. I found they were plenty powerful for my purpose and I was more accurate to boot.

I have loaded 200gr swc's and find that they are too long to use in some 45 Colt cylinders. I use 7.0 of Unique.

J.W. - I can't give you specific advise. I will mention that CorBon 45 Colt loads are hot! They probably shot quite a bit higher than the Keith 255s in your 25-13.

You may find that the lead 200gr RNFPs, eg. Missouri Cowboy #4s, will shoot close to the same POA/POI as the 255s with light loads.
I never found the need to readjust the sights between the two.

I think this is going to be difficult. Among many other factors, it depends on what distance you expect to shoot. As you are no doubt aware, a heavier pistol bullet will usually print higher than a light one, contrary to what happens in rifles. By increasing the velocity of the lighter bullet, you can sometimes get it to print higher, but there may be other factors in play and if you are already shooting a fairly stiff 250/5 gr load, it may be even more difficult.

I have never been able to do it successfully, even with some 1100fps 200gr loads (my 250gr loads are usually around 950-1000fps). But I was using a 7.5" Vaquero. Perhaps with its shorter barrel the 25-13 will rotate more. Or not. I imagine you will have to try different velocity loads at the expected distance and determine empirically if you can get something close. But because it is close at 25 yards, it doesn't necessarily follow that it will be at 15 or 50.

Readjusting the rear sight and remembering the clicks may be the best way to go. Sure beats estimating front sight high hold for the first few rounds!

According to my old speer manual a max charge will push a 250 lswc just shy of 900 fps.
A min charge will push a 200 gr lswc about the same.
Seems doable to me.

I've got a fresh box of Missouri 200g RNFP on hand to try!

The 200g Corbon loads were surprisingly tame. Although sold as "+P", the box states a MV of 1100fps. According to my data I can acheive that with 13g of HS-6 and not even be close to +p levels... I recall the 250g Ultramax cowboy loads I was shooting at the time had a louder report and more recoil. Factory .45 Colt ammo just plain sucks, although there seems to be a few more decent options poping up in recent years. My go to load is 13.0g HS-6 under a 255g Keith. I should be getting a MV of about 950fps. A "warm" but not uncomfortable load. (and not hard on the gun either, IMO)

I'll just have to load some up and see what sort of results I get. I thought I'd ask though because this place is full of great info!

My current batch of 200 gr swc .45 Colt have 6.0 gr bullseye.

I just loaded up a few .45 Colt with 6 grains of Unique and the 200 RNFP Missouri Bullet Co. I'll be shooting them this weekend. I know that load works for my .45 Auto Rim and .45 Auto rounds, just wanted to see how the load works in the .45 Colt.

Favorite load for 45 LC is 200 lrnfp, Fed 150 primer,7.5 grains hp-38
and firm lfc or Redding profile crimp for about 880 fps from 4 5/8 barrel. Extremely accurate in every Ruger sa tried in. Use same bullet for 45 acp and 45 AR.

There is a significant change to POI at 25 yds from 250 grainer, requiring filing down the front site and/or replacing rear site with Bowen.

Yeah, kinda. Only my "FP" has a hole in it! These are the ONLY way I can get the M25 -7 to shoot POA/POI. ANYTHING heavier and I have to use "Kentucky Windage", well, elevation, really!
