148 Grain wadcutters for the 38 special
I have always re-loaded my own 148 grain wadcutters and used a small roll crimp on the case. I needed some new brass so I bought some Remington factory loaded 148 grain wadcutter ammo and they had a small roll crimp. My question is do most factory loads with this type of ammo have a roll crimp and if so will they work in a 52-2, I shoot revolvers but have read that some people use a taper crimp instead of a roll crimp. Inquiring minds want to know
Thanks

If you go back to the original reviews of the 52 I think they say that they got the best groups with the Remington factory ammo. Even better than hand loads.

For use in a model 52 the use of a slight roll crimp rather than a taper crimp is that the small radius at the lip of the cartridge would aid in the feeding of the case.

Makes sense, going to do a side by side "test" with my reloads.

I taper crimp swaged WCs and the bullets stay put. I use a light roll crimp in the crimp groove for cast WCs.
Before I had a taper crimp die I would use a very light roll crimp for swaged.
I have calipers with me when I shoot, and check new loads for bullet jump.

I always used the 148 gr. Remington LHBWC seated flush with a very light rol;l crimp - it worked well in my revolvers and 52-1.
