Any one have some good loading data suggestions for a converted 28-2? I have a little published data but it is pretty limited in powder selection (2400, H110, Accurate No9). Nothing wrong with that but I want to load some various power levels for my Bro-in -law.

Aside from the recommendations in the classic, "Cartridges of the World," the only printed reference I find is the April 1970 (p. 32) issue of the American Rifleman.
There's a long article on this cartridge entitled, "Wildcat Cartridge Packs Kick." Author Bob Milek used a single-shot Thompson Contender for this article.
Only jacketed bullets were used, ranging from 108 to 146 grs. Powders were H110, Unique and 2400.
I'm reluctant to post loads, because this article was published 42 years ago. Perhaps an internet search would find this article offered online.

Lee's 2nd Edition manual actually has a listing for it...but all slow powders. Hodgdon has data too.....110 and 4227 only.

No big deal if no-one has any pet loads. If I but .357 Mag level loads of faster flake powders in the big case I won't be generating as much pressure and should be able to come up with some plinking loads. I'll post back with what I come up with.

Initial results.
7.5 grains of Unique under a 160 gr cast flat point does 850 fps from the 4inch barrel and shoots to the sights. That is a max standard 38 spl or light +P .38 spl depending on whose loads you are testing and pretty well fills the bill for a .357-44 B&D target load in the 28-2.

Of course I didn't take just one load to the range....
10.4 grains of 800x under the 160gr cast FP made 1050 fps---- A 38-44 equivalent we might say. It also bucked and roared a bit.

Maybe 20-years ago, I was snooping around for similar info. I have an extra B&D chambered cylinder for an 8-3/8" Model 27. I contacted the folks at Bain & Davis and they were kind enough to mail some loading data that was current at that time. I wouldn't be surprised if they have even newer stuff now. I didn't see anything on their website, but you never know. You might contact them.

I never really thought much about using target loads in my gun. All of my shooting was done with 158 gr jacketed bullets and big charges of H-110, 296, or 2400. My intent was to try it for metallic silhouette shooting, but I never got around to that.
