.40 S&W IDPA loads
S&W Forum newbie here but not a newbie to reloading. I've been shooting CDP in IDPA but am going to try SSP with my M&P .40 Pro 5" barrel. I'm a big fan of W231 and Bullseye powders and Lead 180 grain TCFP bullets (18 brinell). I've done some tests and have had good luck with 4.8 grains of W231. What type of loads do you use for IDPA SSP with the 40 S&W 180 grain bullet? It's easy to meet the power factor with .40 S&W!

Thanks- I'm familiar with that article but those loads seem a little too lite for me, especially when you have to knock over steel occasionally. I was hoping for some more pet loads from other IDPA shooters.

Power Pistol is the go to powder for Hornady. I do not shoot competition but use a lot of it for 9mm and 40 SW.

Most people I know who shoot minor .40 in SSP are using either Titegroup or HP38/Win231.
My experience is that you can drop to about 155 PF with the stock recoil spring, but need to get a lighter ISMI spring from Brownell's to go down into the 130's PF.

I don't shoot minor with a .40....what I do shoot a lot of in USPSA/IDPA is a 165 grain Montana Gold Bullet with 7.5 grains of Accurate Arms #5. Makes major, is quite accurate and is still pleasant to shoot. I have fired many thousands of them.
Might work for you as well.....
Randy
PS. for a 180 lead projectile like you are talking about I have been very happy with 6 grains of Unique for many years as well

I use a 175gr tc cast over 3.2 of Titegroup 755fps . It works fine in my M&P and recoils about like a 9.
The same bullet with 4.5 TG is my full power load at 965 fps
