Default 9mm 124gr Plated or Jacketed

Ok I know there is a difference in the load data but does it really matter if I get Plated or Jacketed bullets for reloading for the range? I used the search and struck out. I suck at searches.

Thanks for the info.

It matters on how hot you are going to load them. Plated bullets shoot like lead bullets. I have found that Precision Delta sells true jacketed bullets for not more than many places want for plated. Personally, I have not had good luck with lead in the 9mm. However, I have not worked that hard at trying to get lead to work in the 9.

Plated bullets work great in 9mm. 124gr Berry's plated is all I use.

I buy Berry's plated bullets (PHP) a thousand at a time for range use. 3.8 grains of Titegroup with an OAL of 1.08 and they're perfect for plinking.

I awlays shot XTPs, or Zeros, but, due to their price increases, tried some Precision Delta 124 grain jhps, and was surprised to be able to get them to group under 2" at 50 yards. Even though I can do slightly better with Zero's and XTP's, for the price difference, PDs get my vote.

Zero's $110k
XTP's $145k
Precision Deltas $86k

For plinking/target loads I have been extremely well served by Berry's plated bullets. I shoot a LOT of cast bullets and I do shoot cast in the 9mm.....but now in 9 I usually opt for plated. Much easier to get good performance in all of my pistols with one load that way.

It's all about the price, I see no difference between Plated and FMJ at my load levels. Berry's works great for me.

2" at 50yds. Do you shoot bullseye? I do, not many 9's can achieve those numbers. 1911?

Precision Delta FMJ is all I use in my 9's.

I'm all for Zero's, but with the prices going up, I'm looking at Precision Delta and Montana Gold. MG's come out to $85 per 1k if you buy by the case.
For Plated bullets, I use X-treme Bullets. The have an extra thick plating and can go up to 1,500fps, so you can load them up.

I played around with plated vs FMJ for a while and finally settled on Montana Gold. Have used them for quite a while and been pleased with accuracy and consistency.

Same for me. MG is the same price by the case as berry's by the thousand. I shoot 124 jhp 9mm for steel competition. Jacketed seems the most consistent. Plated was ok in 9mm. Moly coated lead bullets didn't do it for me for competition, but worked in my revolver just fine.

Jacketed for me. 124 jhp from PD or 125 gr Hornady HAP in boxes of 3000.HAP is like the XTP without all the expansion **** :-) Both are very accurate at 50 yds. Never tried plated and it's not in my plans for the near future.

I use Berry's plated 124 FPHB exclusively. Order mine from Powder Valley for $73/k plus $10 shipping to me.
