Default Sellier & Bellot brass?

Greetings, all:

A buddy recently gave me 100 pieces of once-fired Sellier & Bellot .38 special brass. Is this stuff suitable for reloading? It appears to be Boxer primed, but I seem to remember reading negative reviews of it somewhere.

A little help, please?

Thanks, and Semper Fi.

Ron H.

S&B is quality brass. The primer pockets may be a bit tight on the first reload otherwise ue it as any other brass.

I know this was started about 38 brass but for those using S&B 9mm check the military headstamped brass with a magnet, much of this is brass plated steel cases. May not matter to some but to others it will.

I have reloaded some 357 mag S&B brass twice & it seems okey so far.
Might I also say the factory loadings were good too....

I will buy more if I come accoss it, as brass sometimes is hard to find!

I found that Wolf primers are a real tight fit in S&B 38's. However Winchester primers fit in them with no problem.

I've reloaded my S&B 9mm three times so far. I've never had trouble with the primer pockets. I use the CCI 500 primers. The brass has held up really well! I have some 40 S&W S&B brass I'll be reloading next.

I've reloaded their .357mag brass many times. Only issue is that they have at least two head stamps - a thin wall and a thick wall. The thin wall are prone to split after 6 or 7 times through the press. Thick wall (or normal wall) are like energizer batteries - they keep going and going.

No!! Don't use them. Very dangerous. I feel that it only proper for me to offer to dispose of them for you.... at no charge!

Send them to me and I will make sure they are properly disposed of.

I used to rake up brass and just sweep it into a dust pan and then pour it all into a bucket. My first sort was to use a large magnet to pull all the steel case stuff out. I noticed all the regular lacquer coated junk and some copper plated (usually the 7.62R stuff) and yes some of it was brass plated 9mm. I never bothered to look at the head stamp but they did have that bright red primer sealer on them.

Someone left a box of S&B 44 mag brass at the range which I gladly took home. The primer pockets would not seat my CCI 300 primers. I used my case chamfering tool to ream out the primer pockets but the primers were still a tight fit.

I ended up running them through my RCBS swaging die. Now they take primers just fine.

I ran into some Magtech brass that had crimped in primers. Yours may be the same thing?
