Default 22 Jet Bullet Size

I'm going to reload some 22 Jet ammo and have a question about bullet size. I picked up some 40 gr Nosler bullets and noticed when I got home that they are .224 and not .222 as I have always used before...so my question is what would be the down side of using the .224? Should I just return them and get the .222?

Thanks.

STOP!!!! Donot use the .224 Dia. ,They will damage your gun. It is ok to use .223 Dia. Sierra Bullets which are the most accurate in all three Jets I have. I have loaded some Hornady .222 Dia. bullets but they don't hold as tight of groups. Also the .224 Dia. would build up to much preasure possibly bloeing your gun up.

Glad you waited......
That would have been a shame to have damaged a great old Jet .............hardly hear of those any more.

That sort of reminds me of the nylon 66 Remington .22.

Love those old weapons.

Question New to reloading the 22 Jet

Thanks Hanken for confirming bullet size for my Model 53. I inherited a Model 53 (6 inch barrel) a few years ago and finally shot through 100 rounds. It's a fun gun to shoot but you better have ear and eye protection. I just started reloading (I'm a novice reloader). Bought Hornady .222 bullets but after neck sizing found them hard to seat. Reloads shot well with 10 grains H110. Muzzle flash is pretty spectacular. Will try reloading next batch with Hornady .223.

Problem: A number of the once shot shell casings won't seat well in the cylinder so the cylinder won't rotate. I tested a number of empty cases and still have this problem so it's not a problem with bullet seating depth. Any suggestions? Should I be full length resizing?

Thanks

always full length size and trim when they grow to long. be sure all lube has been removed from the sized cases also. your .222 diameter bullets are the right ones for the jet,but i like the sierra .223 bullets better in mine. they seem to shoot a little better. if you want flash and dash, try 2400 also. my standard play load is a starting load with hs-6 and a mag small pistol or std small rifle primer.

Thanks for the advice, I've been using the mag small pistol primers. Will give 2400 a try.

I have a bullet mould for the .22 Jet, cast's about a 42g bullet with gas check, I'm going to be casting some soon with linotype and Lyman #2 alloy's, If you'd like I can send some your way to try. Of course I wouldn't drive them at top velocity but it the 1600fps range or so I'm hoping they'll do pretty well.
