Default Longshot and the 45acp

I did a search of the forum and the information posted about using Longshot with a 45acp was quite a bit dated. Ok I am loading 45acp Cast Bullets with an 18BHN, 230gr RN, and also 230gr Hornady XTP's. I had picked up a can of Longshot to load my 45 colts with but then someone on a different forum that I respect convinced me to load those with H110 which works very well. So I have this can of Longshot and decided to use it on my 45acp's. Does anyone have any experience loading with this combination and what can you tell me.
Thank You very much.

I use 6.8 gr. Longshot with a 230 gr. Rainier plated bullet. This is a near max load in the manual so use caution. I have found this load to be clean burning and has consistent velocity readings. I think it works best with heavy bullets. Works well in both my 1911's and a CZ97B. I do use heavier than standard recoil springs in these pistols. Longshot also is a great powder for the .40 S&W and is my favorite for 10mm bowling pin loads in the S&W 610.

I have been loading these to 6.8gr also, they seemed to be a great load and accurate also, but because I was just testing them and I have a box of Missouri Bullet Company bullets (500) I thought I would ask about them. I didnt notice any leading and they were real accurate. I am loading the XTP's to 7.0gr (Max according to my book is 7.4) and they shoot real well for me also but I might build a few lower and see what they do.
thanks so much.

IMO Longshot is a good powder but not for the .45 Auto which is a low pressure round. I like Longshot in the 9mm and it's great in the 40 S&W & 10mm but I do not like it in the .45 Auto. I think faster powders like W231/HP-38 is a much better choice.

I realize that this is a very old post but I had just been experimenting with LongShot and heavy cast bullets in my .45 acp. 8 grains of LS and a Lee cast 255 gr. RNFP bullet averaged 1022 fps from a 5" barrel auto. YES these are well over normal acp pressures and at the bottom end of Super loads so take it for what it is. I do not know the pressures but it is without out doubt over 20,000 psi but primers were round like new on the edges and no other visible pressure signs..Shot to shot consistency was excellent as well as accuracy. This load pretty much duplicates a warmish .45 Colt load for use in hunting. As many have said, faster powders are better for lighter loads as well as lighter bullet loads but I was surprised at how consistent and powerful this powder is. It appears to be a tad slower than Power Pistol...Proceed with caution!

It's a slow powder bordering on a true magnum powder. It was developed for use in hunting 410 shotgun loads.

It might be a Magnum powder.
Even though it was made for the little .410 shotgun, I tried it in
my 12 Ga. trap loads and the noise was just too loud, for me and
the amount of powder was way more than a normal loading of most powders.

I gave it to a fellow loader at the trap club since no 40 cal plus back then.
