Default Range Report 45 ACP 200G PennBullets

my first batch of 45 ACP loads

Bob P. said 200G LSWCBB (Target) over WST, start at 1.25" OAL, 0.469" crimp. I'd be good to go!! That's what I did. Quite a bit of help from guys on this forum on what, how and why.

Picture shows what I got!

Now these were shot at 25' from a sandbag, I just wanted to test if they would feed well - but I put a target downrange anyway.
Left target is a 1.2" group and on the right is a 0.80" group.
There are five holes in there. Close up picture provided in case some one says "No picture, didn't happen."

These will move out fine to 25 yards on the weekend.

Thanks Bob and everyone here that helped. Shovelwrench - thanks for the timely help. I stayed up a little late to finish the rounds off and went to work a little late - so I had to leave work early to make up for it.

I used 4.4G of WST, and CCI primers - its the minimum charge for this bullet according to the Hodgdon website.

yes, I know I have to get out to 50 yards, that will definitely be a challenge - loading the rounds and shooting them!! but for now I'll be happy getting groups like this at 25 yards.

I'm happy because it was successful assembly of the cartridges. I think most could shoot good groups at 25', honkered down on sandbags, with the "RIGHT CARTRIDGE". None of the factory ammo I've shot groups like these.

Colt Series 80 Gold Cup Trophy National Match 5"
not sure about the spring, I think its 18#

I bought the gun used - previous owner put a Wilson Combat Shok-Buff Recoil System in it with a full length guide rod
he didn't remember what spring was in it. He shot hardball rounds in it - so thats why I think it has the heavy spring.
The gun came with 2 other springs, again not sure what they are and I need to find out. My guess is one is the light spring and the other the original spring. I may have to just buy a lighter spring, so I'll know what's in it - because I want to stick with lead and light loads.

You dont need the shock buff things in there. For the 200 swc loaded to about 800 fps a 16# spring will be fine. most people over spring their guns.

Default 45 ACP Recoil Spring

Russell
I read up some on the Shok-Buff Recoil System from Wilson Combat and the different spring strengths. You are correct, it seems all I need for what I am planning on shooting is the 16# std spring. But the reviews of the Shok Buffs, full length rod and 18# spring are all 5 out of 5 stars. It claims better lock up, accuracy, reliability and less wear. It does make it a little more difficult to break down and reassemble, but I'm getting the hang of it. Do you know of any drawbacks to the system or any of the components? Why take out the shok-buffs? You're not the first to say to go back to the original set-up. But I'd like to know more, especially because everything is working well - I don't want to tinker with it.

thanks
