Default Speer GDHP 135-gr for short-barrels

I read good reviews on these but, since it may be a couple years before we see any again, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas how best to copy or come close this load?

Give up Speer has never been generous with marketing that bullet as a component. The 125's were easier to find.

Hornady bullets are much more plentiful (or used to be) and less expensive, But there is not much of anything other than some lead bullets.

You can always use the FBI Load. They are time tested and they work well in several of my J frame revolvers. My current carry M442 shoots well with the 135gr Speer ammo so that's what I carry in that revolver.

It's not easy finding LSWCHP's either.

The Speer 125 GD and the Horady 140gr xtp are the closest thing but..................

Their copper jacket is much thicker and a hevier desigh that is ment for higher velositys ,in order to start to open up and expand.

I can get the 125gr up to a +P velosity of 905fps and the 140gr up to a +P velosity of 838fps,but have yet to test them to see if they will expand.

I agree with the Rem FBI load as a good option if you can't find anything else.

A speer 125gr GD at a "Nyclad" velosity of 840fps out of my snub nose did not expand at ten feet in my water jugs. Might be why the "New" Reminton 125gr +P gets 905 fps in a snub nose ?

IT's pretty simple; get some 135gr GDHPSB bullets, look up a powder that gets the published vel & load that. It's easier to find good 158grLSWHP though than the GDHPSB bullets.
If you want something close, the Rem 140gr JHP or XTP or SIerra are good bets.
