Default Looking for a start load for 2400

I'm looking for a good start load for 158 xtp hp with 2400
this is going to be used in a 77/357.
I have used 2400 in my 686 6" with 13.5 - 14gr. should I just try

Hornady 8th edition
2400 start 10.5gr max 14.3gr for a 158 xtp. Start low and work your way up.

Sorry you are looking for rifle info, the above is for pistol.

Conventional wisdom says start low and work your way up very slowly
and carefully. The reality is that if you load the same load with the
same components, especially seating the bullet no deeper than the
cannelure, your safe revolver loads are going to be safe in your strong
Ruger bolt action rifle.

I use 14.2 grains with Hornaday 158g XTPs. 14.5 grains shoots well but the recoil is a bit too brisk for me.
I am referring to use in 6" revolvers. I do NOT use a magnum primer with 2400.

Pistol, rifle no difference. There are no "down sides" to starting low and working up. Most accurate loads are not at the top of the line/max. loads. Unless you're in a great hurry (no excuse for that in my book) what would be wrong with starting at say 14.5 gr of 2400? Would you be reloading too much? Too often? Or do you want the "perfect load" right now? It's ok to even load .38 Special levels in your .357 Magnum. Some are extremely accurate...

Reloading is fun. Take your time and enjoy it now.

Default 2400 & 357's

I have used 2400 in 357's, 41's and 44's since the 70's.....however I don't have any experience with rifles using the these chamberings....but the most loaded and shot load in my 357's has been the 13.5 gr of 2400 driving a 160 gr SWC, I "borrowed" this load from Skeeter Skelton back in the mid 70's and never looked back.....have shot thousands of them and they have served me well.

I load 14.5gr 2400 under a 158gr bullet using a standard CCI-500 primer.
