LOL, I agree. Hey guys new to posting. Just wanted to say thanks for the thread. Helped me out. I reload plinking 9mm with power pistol and got a couple pounders for my use off your thread. I use a little h335, varget, and cfe223 as well. I don't hoard, I have a minimal supply, just enough to last my target shooting and deer and yote hunting. I would like an 8 lb jug of my 3 hodgdon loads, which would last me probably the rest of my days. And a 4lber of power pistol. Then I would quit looking. I have not been able to see any in time to get it. And I wont buy from the hoarding gouger at online auction since I have enough for hunting. But just wanted to say thanks none the less. So, thanks.

Did you notice that the 1 lb. cannisters of 4227 actually worked out a little cheaper than the 5 lb. cannister? I thought that was odd. I also noticed when I actually got my shipment and invoice they didn't even charge me a hazmat fee. Not sure if this was an oversight or a quanity/price break deal. I got 6 lbs. of powder and 10k primers (5000 each of two varieties).

Gotta believe it was a mistake not charging a hazmat fee as it's a requirement for all carriers. I have never used 4227 before, and it appears to take more than twice the powder than HP38 to get the same velocity. But as hard as it is to get powder, I figured I would give it a shot. This was available at $23. a lbs, shipping was $10. along with the $20. hazmat fee. CCI 550 primers were $26. per 1000, so a decent value overall. I still have to compare to my 2 local shops that each want $50. a pound, and they act like they are doing you a favor.

LD-Ordie, IMR4427 is a magnum powder, in the same class as 2400 or 296/H110. So you really can't compare it to a fast powder such as HP38. It's more for true magnum class calibers such as 357 mag, 44 mag and bigger magnums.

And man, I'm glad I don't live around where you live (wherever that is). Sounds like your LGS's are out to rape their customers on reloading components. The only LGS around me that handle reloading components in quantity charges an average of $30 or less per pound of powder, depending on what powder it is.

Thanks Muddocktor, I do understand that, but I'm currently only target plinking into paper using a .358 158gr swc. So my Speer loading manual shows using 9.0 gr. of 4227 with a 804 muzzle velocity While 3.9gr of HP38 has a velocity of 806.

Right now I'm trying to stretch my powder dollar and get the most bang out of my buck.

I live in a smaller community in the upper Mojave Desert to the west of Death Valley. Say around 30K people in the whole valley. We have 2 smaller family owned gun shops. For the most part, they have reasonable prices on ammo, and guns. They also both have nice outdoor shooting ranges with a yearly membership fee of around $50. for unlimited use. They both promote the shooting sport and have regular competitive events. I try and support them as much as I can, but there powder prices are out the window. We have a Bass Pro 150 miles south in Fontana CA. which I'm not real impressed with their prices, and a Cabbela's 300 miles north in Reno NV, which I wished was closer.

They are advantages and disadvantages to living out in the middle of nowhere, but I'll take it over being in a city any day!

MidsouthSS just added some powders, looks like mostly rifle: 748, Benchmark, H335, and Varget are the ones that stood out.

reloading unlimited has most powders in stock but they run between $33 and $40 per pound + hazmet and shipping. This was on 3-1-15. Outrageous prices but I guess it depends on how bad you need it. Just sayin.

That's way too much for my blood, and I refuse to support suppliers that do so. Other outfits are offering powders for reasonable prices, one just needs to be patient.

Don't know anything about them, but Grafs just added some powders by Nobel Sports.
