PET LOADS FOR 625 PC

GREETINGS, I am new to this forum but not to shooting or reloading. I just acquired a S&W 625-8 PC. I have run some of my loads through it that I use for my Sig and H&K. I was wondering if anyone has any pet loads they use specifily for the 625?

I have been reading this forum for about a month now and must say the people who post here and FULL of GOOD info. More so than the other forums I read.

Are you looking for light/target loads, or something heavier? Lead or jacketed?

My go to load for my 625 for practice and competiton is 4 grains Bullseye and a 230 grain RN cast bullet. I've shot thousands!

I have a couple of 625's (a 5" 625-6 and a 4" 625-8 Jerry Miculek Special). My most shot load is an H&G #68 (MP mould) 200 gr SWC ahead of 4.0 grs of Bullseye or equivalent (currently using Titegroup). My heavy field load is an NOE version of the Lyman 454424 250 gr Keith ahead of 7.0 grs of Unique (chronographs at 900+ fps). That will put a deer's four feet in the air at reasonable ranges.

I also purchased a 625PC 4" in December, love the gun, very very accurate. I am using a 215SWC sized to 452 over 6.0 231 in a 45 Auto Rim case and a standard primer. COAL is 1.22". Got the bullet from Montana Bullet Works and it is superaccurate in my 625 with no pressure signs, and recoil is quite controllable. Be warned that my companion arm is a Model 21-4 44 with the Skeeter load, and the AR load is comparable. This is my experience I started at 5.3 grains of 231 and worked up to 6.0.

Thanks for the info. I am looking for a practice and steel plate round. I use the Laser Cast 200g SWC. I have had great results with this bullet in my Sigs and H&K.

I have found softer lead bullets shoot better in this gun. I cast a H&G #78 225gr SWC and load it over 4grs of Bullseye and CCI primer. It shoots inside of a quarter at 15 yards.

I use 230 grain lead round nose (Missouri Bullet Company) over 5.4 grains Unique. It chronos at a little over 750 fps. Works well in my 625, as well my M&P Semiauto.

Mine likes the Berry's 230 round nose plated over 4.4 grains WST. 777 FPS chronoed.
The RN bullets load smoother than SWCs when using full moon clips.

Anything that a 1911 will handle will perform very well in one of the 45ACP M625s.

My current load is 5.5gr of HP-38/W231 under a 200gr LRNHP that I cast from straight wheel weights from a Mihec 45-200gr Cramer HP mould. I also run that same round through my Auto Ordnance Thompson Semi Auto TM1. That thing is so heavy that it is like shooting a 22LR!

I have some WILD rounds as well that hurls a 240-250gr LSWC, from an H&G #502 mold from my M625JM's 4" tube at 1100fps! From mild to WILD!

Don't fool yourself, the new M625 in 45ACP is one stout puppy.

For light loads I prefer 200 or 230 gr. lead or plated bullets with Trail Boss powder at ca 580-600 fps. Check the Hodgdon website for Trail Boss data.

I was looking for a load that would Chrony for approved PF for shooting IDPA. Regional coming up in April, My load, I think is to light, 230gr, hollow base Moly lead, 5.1gr W231, OAL 1.273, and .471 crimp, I Chrond Berrys 230-RNDS out of a 1911, with that mix, and I was under PF..If I just bump the powder to 5.3 and shorten my OAL to 1.265, You think It would make PF..?

In my 625PC, I've been shooting a 200 grain lead round nosed flat point bullet (45 Colt bullet from Penn Bullets) over 3.6 grains of Clays and Federal large pistol primers. A buddy chronographed this out of my gun at an average of 605 fps, yielding a whopping power factor of 121. This is super mild and great for steel. The round nosed bullet loads nicely in the cylinder. My warning would be not to reduce the load. Also, be prepared to be spoiled after shooting it - very soft and sweet.

I like 5.3 gr. of 231 behind a 200 gr. RCBS cast from wheelweights plus 2% tin! This load prints well out of my Remington 1911 R-1, too! I really like this revolver!

My all around load is a 230 TC over 4.5 of titegroup. It makes power factor for IDPA and is good on bowling pins. If you want more bang it shoots well with 5.0 too. Be carfull with TG so you don't throw two charges into one case, it will really go bang then.
