Default Inline Fabrication ERGO Handle Question

To those using this type of handle, which one are you using?

I am thinking I would like the shorter one since the press will not be on a mount and I will be sitting down.

Thoughts ?

Thanks,
Jim

I bought the longer one and I don't even use it anymore. It's nice but the original ball handle works better for me. I hate to admit it but I also have the Ultimate Reloader handle that I don't even use either.

Bob, do you have the ERGO handle he lists?

If so, you want to sell it ?

If so how much?

I was leaning toward the sorter one which cuts 3" off the prime stroke if I read that right?

Thanks,
Jim

I assume it would help if your press is mounted up higher. I'm not sure.

I can go did the thing up and see if I didn't mess it up and let it rust or anything.

Ya if it is the ERGO type handle, not the offset one they sell.

I would be interested in seeing a picture if you can so i can make up my mind.

Thanks,
Jim

Like Bob, I also have the long Ergo roller that I can't use because I don't stand. I sit to load. I do not use the ultra mount so it doesn't work too well for me. Do you know if the short ergo handle will work for folks like me who don't stand and who don't use an elevated mount?

I'm bolting the press to the table and from what I read the short ERGO is for people who sit. I'm gonna sit to load.

"Short ERGO" roller lever for LNL. This lever features the same bends as the original ERGO lever, but has 3" less of forward offset. This roller lever is designed for reloaders that have their LNL's mounted on Ultramounts who prefer to sit to reload. Or this lever is also for the reloader who wants the ERGO advantage, but doesn't require 7" of forward offset. Available in painted or powdercoat finish.

Now Jim, you know I mean this in a "good way"

But get a hold of yourself man.. You are bouncing around like a kid in a candy shop. Have you even loaded your first LIVE piece of ammo???

Get your press, which ever one it may be today, and load some before you buy all kinds of stuff.

Sorry, but I am not there to give you a Gibbs slap upside the head

No problem, taken w/love brother. My wife says the same thing. Getting a jump on some things, I got to hit the 2K mark

Nope, haven't loaded my first live round yet, and still need a Chronograph

There are some things I know I need and bought them.

Looking hard at the handle in question but I won't buy until I use the press, I promise.

Everything is cool, no offense taken

Don't listen to him. Reloading gear is like crack cocaine. You can never have enough of the stuff unless you are trying to swim. Then it just makes you swim harder.

I think maybe crack is cheaper and less addictive.

Rollbar, I liked your posts from the first - couldn't figure why. Now I know why - you're worse than me You're now my idol . . . if you buy the handle before ever using the press

Well I will say that I feel like the hard plastic ball handle on the LNL AP is very half thought out. It has a mold seem line around it, it has a textured finish to it, and after a while your hand is just wore out from it. I think I'm going to next try a billiard ball handle for it.

Well I'm gonna buy the short one (unless Bob has the short ERGO handle) but the web site wants to use my Google Wallet and I want to use a different CCard.

I'll have to look closer and see if there is a way around it or just call them

If all else fails, there is always eBay to sell it on

I already got my notify but did not buy it. I have the RCBS and just bought the Worlds Perfect for 223. I can trim the few 30-30 and 30-06 with the RCBS.

The big deal for me is that it doesn't just trim to length; it also chamfers the case mouth. I use a Forster trimmer for everything but .223 right now and it works great but then I have to go back and clean up after the trimming. If I can turn that into an all in one then I think it's worth the bucks. That's my story and I'm sticking to it...

What the WPT?? If you follow the destruction's and turn the case 1/4 turn at the end and do not allow it to fill with shavings the brass does not need chamfering. Even if it does need a little. You can sit with a bucket and watch TV or drink beer or whatever. Hire an illegal alien.

On my RCBS I bought the expensive trim head for 223 that does all three, trim, chamfer and de burr. I can use a powder drill and shove it in there every time but its a pain.

I bought this to fix any brass. Chuck it in a drill put drill in vise.

If you have chamfering tool make sure it is one that will fit this adapter. It says Lyman will not but mine does?? I bought thw whole set up. The Wilson appears to be better steel.

I bought the short Ergo roller handle for my LnL about three months ago.
After loading a few hundred rounds I went back to my original one.
Nicely made, and the guy was nice to deal with, but at this time it is not very comfortable for me to use. My bench is not tied down and I lifted the front of the bench every time I seated a primer. This resulted in the handle loosening very quickly. As a result, the roller handle soon twists so that you are not pushing directly forward.
Probably within the next year I will be moving and have a permanent place for my benches. When I can attach the benches solidly I think the handle will work better. I will still need to make an intense effort to line the handle parell with the bench.

I'm not going to send it back. I discussed it with him before I bought it. I believe it will work nicely when I can get my bench tied down.

Having that bench rock solid is the key to any press more complicated than a single stage. You don't want the bench to move one bit. Don't even let the bench top flex or bow. And you want to either add another nut to hold the first one in place or break out some thread locker compound. Since the handle is being pushed and pulled from the side, you end up with a back and forth twisting motion on the threads. Adding any motion from the opposite end as you (the bench top) and you only make it worse for trying to lock down the handle. I have both the Ultimate Reloader roller handle and the IF long Ergo handle and they both had to be locked down more than with just the single nut they came with. And all that money later I found that it took more effort pushing and pulling if you move your energy off target from the arm by making your hand off to the right. The standard ball handle grip works best for me so far. I really thought the Ergo arm would increase leverage or make for less bending and body motion but all it really does is change it instead of lessening it. I think if I try anything else again that if I see where someone can make an adapter to move the arm to the front center then that might help instead of your motion with the arm being off center at an odd angle.

Maximumbob54, you stated my thoughts much better than I did.
I very much agree with having the bench as stable as possible. However, in my present circumstances it is either use my 48" x 20" section of 3" maple laminate (former shuffle board) with a Sears metal leg set, or not reload at all.
For about 45 years I have been trying for the ultimate reloading set-up, in about ten different locations. Seems like if I get a good solid permanent set-up I almost immediately move. Or if I have to rely on a temp set-up I stay there for years.
I hope this next move is the last.

Well sitting messing around w/the Hornady LNL press, I am at an angle to the left of the press facing the opening at the 7:30-8 O'clock position and that feels comfortable. I have not purchased the ERGO handle yet and at the position I am sitting I don't think it will work.

I am interested in another knob-what is the thread diameterthe knob would screw into, 1/2" ?

Thanks,
Jim

P.S. I have used a mussel in my back I'm not use to
