After the patent on the bored thru cylinder expired,percussion,pinfire,needle fire,all became outdated and cartridge cases were new fangled and many a shooter stayed with what they knew for years after the civil war,general Robert E Lee was a hold over and left his 1851 colt 36 cal loaded for 7 years after the war and upon retireing it in favor of a cartridge gun all chamders fired perfectly.along came large rimfire and centre fire cartridges black powder and most lacked the power of the percussion guns,but were much more convienient,but having no industry standards the manufacturers were at a loss to describe their products uniformly.please share any early ammo pictures or ammo designations.
