SONIC CLEANERS
Well, my Lyman should be here in a couple days. Sure hope this isn't a mistake. Have done a lot of research and concluded as with most things, you have to follow the instructions. No problem with that, but what I cannot figure out is why some people think this will polish there brass????? This is supposed to be a CLEANER -- not sure what part of that is not understood--- but am hoping for the best. Clean is clean, polish, is another matter. Just glad I have the time to pursue such fun things.

Make sure and use the Lyman cleaner for your sonic cleaner. The cheap stuff does not work. They have some for brass and for metal for your gun parts. Don't use the heat when you clean brass, you can tarnish them. After you remove them from the cleaner soak them in water for a few minutes and then let them dry a couple of days. I like the sonic cleaner because you can de-cap and clean the primer pockets.

Well, I have been decaping for a long time-- a long story -- -- so that will not be a problem. I have the Lyman cleaner for brass and jewelry-- don't believe I saw it for just metal-gun parts?. All was ordered then found out they had to backorder the machine. -- so no heat with the brass? Well ok, I have yet to read any instructions at all. Will be sure and rinse them, no problem there at all. I have several trays, and some bar towels I use for drying brass as it is. Hoping for the best here. THANKS!!!! I am quite use to working ahead of my current needs as well.

I hope yours works better than the Hornady unit I bought. It did little to nothing to once-fired brass cases, even after three cycles with extra solution in the water, but leave the brass with a gummy coating. And the washing and drying business left me cold.
I went back to using Flitz on the case necks, my RCBS CaseMaster on the primer pockets and an hour in my vibratory tumbler - cases come out looking better than new!

I live on a fixed income and was in Harbor Freight several years ago and found a sonic cleaner. $65 OTD. Bought some Hornady Sonic Cleaner juice and got started.
I find if I decap and then use the sonic cleaner, several cycles, then my brass is much nicer. I do use heat tho. I put the brass in the tumbler for several hours and it comes out just perfect.
I have a RCBS decapper for .27 to .45 caliber and use that. Resize after I get the brass taken care of. I know it is an extra step but I have lots of time for pleasure, it don't bother me.

Thats was my mistake. I just got the Lyman for fathers day and ran it last weekend and could not figure it out why they did not look as good as I expected. No note of that in the manual that I could see.
Thanks

Read the lyman instructions. They say to use no heat on brass. You can go to their web-sight if you need them.

OK- Picked this baby up at the PO as I could not wait for them to get by, sometime this afternoon- Ran some test batches through, AFTER reading through the instructions a few times, just to be sure I didn't miss any thing. Also keeping in mind all the above from real users. SO-- here are the results so far.
1st Bbatch-- some 32 mag that had been cleaned my old way--
Came out pretty good, ran through a couple times while I was busy with something else. 50 pcs--
2nd Batch-- a couple boxes of 9MM that had been cleaned my old way -- Again, ran through a couple times or so-- Maybe 150 pcs at most--
3rd batch--- ran through about 4 times-- this cruddy stuff had been deprimed, and that was all--
Results of above-- Not all perfect, and I never expected them to be-- most ALL of the outsides showed MARKED improvement as did most primer pockets. No, not all primer pockets came out perfect, but most did. No all brass was covered with solution, but it was not up to the full mark either. One opition to explore???? Every thing was mixed as per instruction and I did 'degas' the solution. Over all I am more than pleased with results, but they could of been better. Some cases were much better than others, not sure for the reason for that though????
Mixed in were a few Nickel cases, and they did fine, which is good as I have sever thousand to do. Once they are done, about all I will need to do will be a bit of range brass, and my current firings.
Would I buy another?? You Bet! Should I run into any more hints, I will post them, and hope everyone does the same. Since the metal cleaner is not the same, I will have to find some. Midway didn't list it when I ordered mine
THANKS ALL!!!

ADDED POINT OF INTEREST
Just another point of interest-- it would of taken me a couple weeks or so to clean the brass I did yesterday in less than a couple hours. Not bad--

SO IT SEEMS
After a couple days use, it seems some brass using some powders cleans up better than others. Most noted, W231 & Red Dot seem to clean up better than what ever powder is used in factory 308's. Some look like new, inside and out, others not so much. Anyone else notice this?? Still does a nice job for the most part.
