Default Count your projectiles.....

I just received my order from Precision Reloading for 4000 55gr Hornady FMJ BT bullets. It is at least 130 short.
They sent two boxes marked 2000 each. I counted the entirety of one and am 66 short of 2k. Weighing each box, I get an identical number, meaning that most likely the other box is also roughly 66 short.

Now, I backordered these a few months ago. I appreciate them letting me do that, but not at the cost of part of my order.

When I called, they were very nice, and said they would send more out Monday.
Odd that they have them to send, unless they are purposely shorting people, to re-sell the extra.

Anyway, they will be fixing the error, or close to it anyway, but if I were you, Id be counting every single bullet in every order you get, and make sure they are all there.

Ive gotten quite a few lately, and most have been 1 or 2 short in quantities of 500. I appreciate getting what I ordered, and not being short, but I wont throw a big fit over getting 999 vs 1000.
I will though if you short me 130....

I've found incorrect bullets in a box of bulk bullets before (.38 SWC in a box of 9mms) but I don't time nor patience to count through a box of 500, much less 2000.

Mass produced items like bullets aren't counted individually. For shipping, bullets (or parts) are weighed. Possibly a worker, or new employee, in a hurry (they are very busy with the current panic buying) misread a scale. They offered to make it right, so do you really think they purposely shorted your order?

I load in lots of 100, use BERRY'S. Not hard to track # of bullets/box.
Don't recall ever being shorted, as a rule a box contains several over. Assume they err slightly in customers' favor to avoid complaints.

I always packed by weight to save a few hours and tossed in some spares to cover both possible shortages and the occasional screwball slug that just didnt cast right.

Yeah, all others Ive gotten have erred on the side of the customer, or right on, or at least REALLY close (within one or two).
This one was not.

Weighed or not, their scale was WAY off to be off that many.

Do I think it was purposeful? Who knows. Seems odd that its that far off for two different boxes. I know they dont count them, thats why I do.
I do know that the last order I got from them was also short a few, but not like this.
I do know too that they are correcting it, but after two times, this one being worse, there is a pattern.

Midsouth and others that Ive received bulk projectiles from have been dead on or VERY close.

Seems like according to some, I should just chalk up the $12 to error and leave it at that, but I guess when I pay for and am charged a certain amount for something, I expect to get that something.

My bad for suggesting that people might want to check their counts and giving a heads up as to what happened with my situation.

I must have wanted to be bean counter as I too count things and expect to get what i pay for.
For brass and bullets I use the plastic 50 round pistol box trays - dont have to count much, just fill all the holes and count how may trays you filled. Also stick one in my gunshow bag for those times I find loose bullets being sold.

I do that also on bulk ammo buys...those plastic tray save a lot of cyphering.

6.5% I care about that. Their scale may be off and they should know. Besides, it is fun to count 4000 rds when you have OCD, very relaxing!! Be Safe,

Now I'm going to start weighing boxes of cereal and bags of potato chips to make sure I got the amount I paid for. I hate being OCD.

Yeah, but thats hard, because I cant do it without eating some of it.
Id have to have a scale that read in ounces, then weigh the bag BEFORE I open it....

Some settling may occur, but you should get what you paid for.

Well, mebbe they are just out to get you. The folks at Precision have your name and purposely short every order you send in. They've offered to make it right, so...

My last ammo buy was a 1,000 round box of Federal - Lake City 7.62X51mm. It felt like 1,000 rounds when I picked it up so I went with that number.

So....what?
Again, is there something wrong with me mentioning the fact that I was shorted projectiles in my order and attempting to make others that might actually care aware of it?
If you dont mind paying for stuff and not getting it, feel free to start sending envelopes full of money to random people in the phone book.

Do you think posting the same sentiment twice makes it stronger?
I already said I know what you are talking about, and that while Im sure it was most likely a mistake, its happened more than once. Once is a fluke. Twice is a pattern.
Maybe you just dont like it when people question why they didnt get what they paid for.
Do you honestly think Im the only one that had this happen?

PS, thats a rhetorical question....which means no answer is expected, needed, or wanted.

I think the poster was right to complain-how'd you like it of you got home and you only had a dozen glazed do nuts in the box. I can't tell you how many times this has happened to me. I bring home donuts and my wife opens the box only to find out that they shorted me a do nut!

Okay, survey time. All those who have Precision Reloading bullets count them and see if this guy receiving two short boxes is an anomaly or a plot. It's time to get to the bottom of this.

IF Precision loads boxes by weight, it's possible that someone previously boxed up 52 grain bullets and the loader didn't get reset for a heavier 55 grain bullets.

It's also possible that sun spots and the shifting magnetic north from global warming has somehow affected their scale calibration....

I've always gotten extras from RMR. The last batch of 500 9mm bullets had 15 extra. Now with my Berger rifle bullets, they are always exactly 100 per box.

Lodogg2221,
Thanks for the heads up and your concern for your fellow Forum member.

I am certain that those of us concerned over quantity already count what is in the boxes. I know that I did when I first started loading decades ago. Back them I was buying projectiles 100 at a time. When I moved up to 500 and 1000 bulk packs I continued to count.

However, I no longer count. 99 times out of 100 the boxes were right on or had an extra or two. It was rare to find a shortage, though I did report them when I could. In the long run, even if I had never reported a shortage, I received more than I paid for.

These days I load and shoot too much to count. My last purchase was 10,000 of a single projectile design. While I too want what I paid for, I consider my time more valuable that a handful of missing projectiles that I might discover from time to time.

Call Alex Jones, he'll get to the bottom of this bullet shorting conspiracy!

Its definitely NOT that the scale was miscalibrated, thus easily explaing why both your boxes weighed the same. No, that's not it. It must be something ....darker....

I would call on it.

In know I made a big order of 9mm JHP's (10,000 rounds in 2,000 round boxes) around christmas a while back and UPS in their infinite ability broke open several of the boxes. They had taped them back up but their was a line of dribbled bullets come up to my house where they spilled out and bullets in the street and in their truck. I called midway and they replaced one box full which was about what was lost so no big deal.

BUT....

I still occasionally find 9mm 115 JHP's in my sidewalk. The driver came back after christmas and swept out his truck on the street and gave me a bucket full. Occasionally he will leave me a delivery with one or two bullets on it even today.

I recently bought two bulk orders for my Supers. One order came in 150 over. The second was dribbling bullets, as related above and I figured it would be at least 100 short. Even after the loss it was 50 or 75 over. The sellers were both generous.

Reporting a mishap/shortage to fellow forum members is good. Complaining, going on an on (whining) about how poorly you've been treated is not good. The company in question said they would correct any shipping mistakes, sight unseen, so why keep complaining? I have dealt with Precision a few times, purchasing hand gun bullets in 2 calibers, and have not been shorted. Others have reported the same, so I would believe your problem is a one in a thousand occurrence.

C'mon, deal with it, mass manufacturing mistakes happen and you are not being singled out!

Again, Ive agreed that they are handling it. Your reading comprehension skills need some serious work.

You are doing more whining than anyone else in the thread, all because you think someone shorted something shouldnt even mention it, and because you seem to be reading a LOT into what I wrote that simply isnt there (again with the reading comprehension). Maybe you should deal with it, or better yet, if you dont like the topic, dont post in it.
I mean really, you have pointed out the exact same thing in 3 different posts. Did you feel you didnt get the point across the first two times, or maybe you just like boosting your post count. In either case, we got it. A long time ago.

If you stopped trying to justifying your complaining, I'd probably have stopped earilier. I feel I needed to point out your continued complaints because someone might have believed you. There is noting wrong with my comprehension, I fully understood as you have repeated yourself/complaints several times.

I mean really, you mentioned a problem once, and whined about it and the responses in more posts. Again my question; why do you feel the need to continually badmouth Precision for shorting you??

Also don't bother with an answer, it's a rhetorical question (do you know what a rhetorical question is?), and you're going on my "do not show posts" list...

I sincerely hope you always get exactly what you order, 'cause the continued stress from "they're out to get me" (paranoia) can cause a heart attack...

Probably a combination of causes. Shrinking profit margins, increasing competition and price pressures probably being high on the list. Then, add in varying weights of boxes and other minor items and it's surprising some vendors come as close as they do on bulk orders.

I can remember when even 100 count boxes from major manufacturers had at least one spare. You're not going to see that again anytime soon.

Exclamation

Well, I have been returning to this post several times and guess I will insert my 2cents worth.
First of all, I have dealt with PR for years and never had a problem. Companies do not stay in this business for long by cheating people. At least not in the firearms business. To accuse PR of theft on a public forum just smacks of ----------, I cannot print-- a mistake was made, for whatever reason, an offer was made to correct it. Take the offer and suck it up-- Can anyone really believe PR is making a business of cheating people a couple pieces?? I would be careful about posting accusations of theft if it was me. This thread needs to be closed. JMHO One cannot help but wonder if the poster would of been so quick to post if an extra 20 pieces had been found and offered to pay for or return them?? I somehow doubt this as well. Again, JMHO

Well, heres my last post on this matter.

I dont know how so many people took a flying leap to the conclusion that I said they were guilty of theft, or are purposely shorting me only, but thats what this thread has turned into. Seems everyone likes to jump on the hater bandwagon, and thats fine. At least it gives me a better perspective of the type of people on this forum.

I simply stated that they shorted my order that that others should check theirs if they cared to.
I also stated that I didnt care about a few short and that Id been short in the past and didnt really care, but being so many short on one order was the issue.
I also CLEARLY stated that they were going to make it right, and that they were friendly about it, and they did.

The long and short of it is this:
I mentioned that others should be wary of their counts.
Those who didnt care about their counts thought I was full of it, and should keep quiet, and deal with it.
One other still accused me of calling them thieves.

Im somewhat surprised that my heritage or political affiliation wasnt brought up as well.

At the very least, its been a learning experience about the online reloading community, at least on this forum.
For that, at least, thanks.

Odd that they have them to send, unless they are purposely shorting people, to re-sell the extra.
