700x for the 41 Mag
As you all know, powder is difficult to come by. I have access to 700X and 800X. I understand 800 is not suitable for the 41. Do any members here have experience with 700 behind Hornady and Sierra 210 grain HP bullets?
Thanks,
Dave

I use 700-X in 12ga shotgun by the bucket, but it is too fast for max power magnum pistol loads, and you can get overpressure in a hurry with it. Data are in the Hodgdon website for free.

I use 700x behind 200g lead round nose flat point .45acp.
I settled on 5.1g that is about .2g less than max load.
Currently it is the only powder I could get. I like it.
Dunno about "magnum" loads.

Nothing on 700 X. But Hornady Handloading Handbook 8th Edition does list 800 X and thier 210 gr. JHP.
It appears Hornady thinks 800 X to be suitable .
Remington 41 Magnum:
#4100HP-XTP
B.C.:0.182 C.O.L.: 1.580 inch
Powder: 800 X
min. starting load: 9.5 grs. @ 1100fps
10.3 grs. @ 1150 fps
11.0 grs. @ 1200 fps
11.7 grs. @ 1250 fps
12.5 grs. @ 1300 fps
MAXIMUM LOAD: 13.2 grs. @ 1350 fps
Hope you still have access to the 800 X.
Cast / swaged lead bullets might be suitable with 700 X but not at full throttle magnum loads. I have a model 58 41 mag I usually load with cast at 850 to 900 fps for tin cans and targets.

I have used 700X in the past in 45 Colt. I would think that if you looked at some of the loads for that caliber they would be ok in the 41.

Sorry I can’t help on the specific question you have but I can put in a good word for 700X.
I shoot a 44 240 SWC with 7.5grs. It groups virtually identical to my full house 240 JHP.
Work on it, you’ll be glad you did.

Thank you folks. And yes, I can still get either the 700 or 800. But surely not for long. Looks to me like a moderate charge of 800 behind XTPs should be just fine. And there is a single load for the 700 behind the XTPs listed on the Hodgden site. The company site did't list a single load for 800.
