Default Range report

Reloading 9mm is a new deal to me. I tested some 9mm 125 gr SWC (from Penn) with 4.2 grains of Bullseye in my M5943 at 15 feet. I got the OAL a little short at 1.056 but I'll correct this in future batches.

I usually shoot a 686 SA and the change to the DAO trigger of the 5943 was a feat in itself. After a few mags I kind of got the hang of it. I'm testing these mainly for my wife, trying to get a mild load. I thought these still had a bit of a kick and I'm going to try 4.0 gr BE or maybe even a little lower next time. I had no FTF, FTE, none of that. This was 9 shots (hard to get that 10th round in). I like the cloverleaf near the bulls eye.

PS Never mind the hole in the top. That was way off in a familiarization round.

PPS Oh, the 5943 is an aluminum frame so that contributes to the rounds being 'kicky'.

rw

good deal - thanks for posting - I want to get the same bullets for my M59
keep it coming - I'll have to go through the same thing going from a 686 SA to the 59

great cloverleaf - rifle guys only shoot 3 into a target - so you've got something going right there

In the old days I tried some 124 lead RN in my 9mm, hoping
to get a target and Jack rabbit load that might work but it
would not have any part of them, with 5 and 7 inch groups.

Had to go with the jackets............... but todays lead might be a lot better. Good luck getting a load that will work for you.

I have shot 124 gr round nose commercial hard cast bullets in 9mm with good luck. Accuracy was as good as jacketed. Leading was minimal.

I've been working with the 125gr SWC from Missouri in a .38 super, target loads for me are at 3.3gr of bullseye. In the larger case, that means less pressure then a 9, I would definitely be comfortable with that load in a 9, or working down from 4gr to see what the guns cycling limits are......
