I have a Henry in .357 magnum. I really like it, but my friends go nuts when they shoot it. At 100 yards, with open sights, it's dead on. The recoil, even with hot loads, is mild. 38 specials just go "puff" like an air rifle. The ballistics are not bad. The long barrel makes the .357 come alive. It also has a smooth short action that makes rapid fire easy. It is barrel heavy, but that doesn't bother me. I have had many people shoot mine and then go out and buy one for themselves. Once you get used to the tube loading you will be able to load much faster than a loading gate style rifle.

Nice rifle. I have a Henry in .22LR and it has an extremely smooth lever action and it's very accurate.
Like I said in your thread over on THR, I shoot the same .357 magnum loads in my revolvers and levergun. (I have a Marlin 1894C) Well, all but the 180gr loads I shoot in the levergun only. I don't like shooting heavy bullets in my revolvers because I feel they beat up the revolver for no good reason.
As for middle range .357 Magnum loads, I use HS-6 especially with lead bullets. You can download HS-6 better than W296 and it delivers more punch than W231.

Beautiful rifle! I've been looking for a Marlin 1894C in .357 to go with my 336C in .30-30 but I haven't had any luck finding one at a decent price. For what people are asking for them I could just get a new Big Boy.
If you don't mind me asking did you have to pay MSRP or close to it?

WOW!!!! what a GREAT Day, Most Fun I have had in a long Time... man did the Time Fly....... woke up at 5:30 when wife was getting ready for work..... was 54deg out and just Beautiful....
Set up a target at 25yds, 50yds and 100yds... and Chrono is Ready to Roll and a balmy 63deg.... NICE!!!!
So 1st up the NEW Henry in .357... Tossed in some H110 Mag Loads..... and sent 6 down range at 25yds all free hand standing
THING IS SWEET!!! The Mag Loads have a Nice pop.. .... Seems I am Pulling to the Right
2nd Group was some Factory Rounds... Figured i'd need more Brass now
I focused better but still pulling to the Right
Then i started to Chrono some Loads...... after a bunch thru the S&W .357 I did a Bench rest, arms Only, and managed a Pretty good Group..
5 rounds, notice the double Hole factory Rounds
1343fps Avg...1395fps high.... 1273fps Low
Next up we had H110 15gr.... 3-158gr SWC and 3-158gr RN.....
SWC... 1747fps Avg... 1764fps High... 1728fps low
Same Round in S&W .357 was Avg 1182fps
RN....1714fps Avg.... 1728fps high.... 1689fps low
Same Round in S&W .357 was Avg 1023fps
Not sure which is which... but pretty good, another double hole
Last for the henry is 10 Factory Rounds at 50yds, Free hand Standing
Still looks like i favor to the right.... didnt have a small flat head screwdriver... so will try adjusting the site next trip out
Not Bad Though..
Did some more Chron on W231 loads in the Henry
W231 6.1gr .. 158gr SWC Avg 1317fps.... great load... Nice pop and seemed pretty accurate
Same Round in S&W .357 was Avg 1063fps
W231 6.1gr .. 158gr RN Avg 1208fps... another nice load....
Same Round in S&W .357 was Avg 976fps
Ill check accuracy on these next Range trip... and try a bit lighter load of H110, mainly for the Pistol, but see how they do in the Henry as well...
never did test the 125gr in the henry.... Ill do that Next trip as well
Thing is UBBER Fun.... popped off 10rds at 3 cans at 25yds... only missed 2x.... thing is real accurate... just need ta work on my EYES and The Sites... Gunna Paint the Front tip either White or Orange ta see if it Stands out More...
Now ta prepare my testing of H335 and WC844 for the .223....

That's $100 under MSRP and not a bad price at all. I would have jumped on it too!

Hey Cal44 I see you posting often about all the good stuff your local shop has. How far north are you and what is your local shop? They don't get anything good in the local shops around me!

I live up in Roseville which is in the NE end of the Sacramento metro area.
The gun shops I have done business with are:
Sportsman's Warehouse in Rocklin -- they have a fair number or revolvers and seem to specialize in hunting oriented long guns -- but have a little of everything. Good prices
Sacramento Black Rifle in Rocklin -- Not as good prices as SW above, but different stuff. Lots of semi autos and some revolvers. I found my new S&W 642 no lock there and noticed today they have another no lock 642 available. Very few lever guns -- mostly black rifles
Discount Shooters Supply in Roseville -- good prices, but a smaller store. A little of everything. They have a lot of reloading supplies including a great stock of primers at reasonable prices. For while, they were the only place to get primers around here.
Anyway, after reading the OP's stuff, I ended up buying a Henry 357 big boy today. Bought it from Sacramento Black Rifle. They don't have many lever guns, but did have two Henry 357's.
Their web site said they also had a 45 Colt Henry -- hence my earlier post.
But it turns out the other Henry was a 44 Mag instead.
Given I already have a Marlin 1894 in 44 Mag, I went for the 357 Henry.
Price was the same as the OP paid.
I think I'm one of their few customers who is mainly interested in lever actions and revolvers. Mostly they sell to the black plastic crowd.

I got one for my wife about two years ago. exquisite rifle.

take your time and place those shots ... Im expecting to see some 1" groups at 100.
Yeah It will

To adjust for windage you will need a brass center punch and a hammer. Henry sells a kit for about 35 bucks. It includes a brass punch and brass hammer. I just used a brass rod that I had with a wooden mallet.

yeah I had to noodle with its windage a bit.
Mine seems to have a preference for heavier bullets as well, Not to say it can't put 125's home fairly well, it just don't sing like it does with my Keith type HP's over 2400
in short .. it can shoot, and when you find her butter zone .. it can really shoot

Now for some STUPID Fun Times….
Loaded up some W296 for the .357….. 14.2gr dropping from the 15gr… really Liked it… still a NICE POP but not too excessive
W296 14.2gr .357 158gr RN…
1023fps…. Shot real Nice
W296 14.2gr .357 158gr SWC…
1030fps…. Shot very nice as well
W296 14.2gr Henry Rifle .357 158gr RN…
1580fps…. Really Nice Load…..
The Henry Rifle is soooooo Much Fun….. This is at 30yds Free Hand… There is 5 rounds There… SAWEEEEETTTT
Made a HUGE Difference painting the front sight Orange….. increased my Accuracy 10x….
Need more Practice at 50yds and 100yds… so will be fun working on that
Seems Windage is Just Fine... looks Like its Me more than anything Pulling to the Right... But Ill be sure and do EXCESSIVE testing ta be sure
really Really like this Rifle... lots of Fun ta say the Least...

After looking up reviews, I put a 4x simple old used scope on my henry. Definite immediate increase in accuracy.

I am not real pleased with the balance of my Henry's with the octagon barrels [.357-44-45] as far as carrying in the woods, etc.......I [think] that I would rather have a round barrel......IDK.....just think so.
Shooting them is entirely different. The extra weight keeps the muzzle in check [maybe Henry's engineers know something].
I painted all mine white [back ramp of front sight] and it helps.
I dare you to try this component combination in yours......
11.5gr AA#9
158gr TCBB lead Penn bullet
It stomps some serious 'donkey' in mine.....Henry, Rossi, Marlin, and my special sweetness [orgasmic] new Model 77/357 bolt.

Nope, no sling on mine. I have some set up for 'quick attach' but mostly they are in a scabbard.....in the truck, on a horse, or on an ATV and the sling would get in the way. The new Ruger 77/357 is so light I just carry it, but it would be a great candidate for a sling, carried on your back.
