Priming On The LnL Classic
Got a Hornady LnL used that came with a primer feeder. Man, is that thing finicky. Getting the spring loaded tube feed lined up to accept the receiver is a mystery to me. When i do get the right angle there doesn't seem to be quite enough "oomph" to get a primer to fall. I tried to find tips on You Tube but in every video they're either hand priming off the machine or feeding the machine by hand one primer at a time.
What am I doing wrong???

OOOOPS, I just notice you said CLASSIC in the title. I'll leave the info below regardless, even though it doesn't answer your Q
I found this to be a good series (6 parts) on the LNL to help on the various "difficulties" with the LNL. Part 2 talks about the primer system

Blujax01,
I read a review of the "CLASSIC SINGLE STAGE PRESS" PRIMER SYSTEM.
The gentleman said to raise the RAM all the way.
Bolt the system to the press.
Turn it UNTIL THE PRIMER CUP just compresses the little spring on the feeder.
Tighten down.
DO NOT PUT MANY PRIMERS IN UNTIL SET CORRECTLY, LEST THEY DUMP ONTO THE FLOOR.
You must use all the primers you put into the tube, OR THEY DUMP ON TO THE FLOOR.
Some say to read the original instructions, but also say they are a little vague.
I have that unit but have NEVER USED IT, I'll maybe take a peak today for instructions and operation.
ALSO:
THE VIDEO SERIES MENTIONED IN AN ABOVE POST ABOUT
TIPS AND TRICKS FOR THE HORNADY LNL-AP PROGRESSIVE
PRESS IS 5 OR 6 VIDEOS, AND IS REALLY WELL DONE BY BILL MORGAN NOT HORNADY.
Those video's are a MUST SEE for the progressive press owners.

Thanks, Moonman. Yeah, I've already found out about the "primers on the floor" thing - twice!
The hole in the bracket is much larger than the screw that attaches it to the press and unless I lean into the screw HARD it falls out of sync after a dozen pulls. I get that the hole needs to be oversized to allow for adjustment but it's wa-ay too big, IMO.
Seeing as the bracket had some pretty bad gouges in the aluminum and the primer tube has a small bow in it, I figure the previous owner had problems as well. Maybe I can throw a star-toothed washer in between to give it some bite...
Anyone actually use this thing or did ya'll give up and hand prime?

blujax01,
The bow in the tube is from NOT REMOVING IT WHEN DONE and bumping into it.
When adjusted correctly,
Ram is up, the bottom of the aluminum piece and the steel pivoting ram primer arm ARE PARALLEL.
Spring is activated to release ONE primer.

Several companies make good hand held priming tools. I think the Lee is the most common and is what I use on all my non progressive reloading. With the Lee and the others you get a feel for how the primers seat, and this alerts you to some conditions in the primer pocket that are not desirable. Due to the set up I reload with, I have 6 of the original style priming tools, and just got the ergonomic model of the new style a few weeks ago. I have a priming tool set up for each size of primer and have the tools labeled for that size, Fed 205, Fed 210, Fed 215 etc. Also I have just for Rem 7 1/2 and have a dedicated shell holder for 223 in it. This leaves the presses free from priming set up and clutter. Ivan

Hornady auto feeder
bluejax
yes the thing is finicky - but once adjusted right it works great - my guess is its an over-sized hole instead of a slot - to allow adjustment in all directions
everything moonman told you is right on
here's a few pictures of mine set-up
hopefully it'll help
first - all the way up and parallel
next - this is about how much of the spring is exposed
coming up approaching the spring
"kissing the spring"
fully engaged - primer should come out
one little design flaw - is the tube pushes out sometimes - I plan on putting a set screw on it - but this tape works - its not holding it tight to the bottom - just stopping it from pushing up
hope that helps - feel free to ask for anything I missed or for other pics

GREAT PHOTOS, How's that for service blujax01.
P.S. I mailed him the Hornady Instructions, but your
photos are just FABULOUS, how's that, a picture is
worth a thousand words, Beautiful Baby, Just Beautiful.
Hornady should have photos that good in their INSTRUCTIONS, they do not however.
