Ohhhh the HORRORS!!!!!
Probably to curb the panic scalpers from buying several hundred thousand in one fell swoop. I know several that do that, something happens and they turn around and buy 300-400k of primers.

Well everything else is going up in cost, why not primers & powder? You can't print $85B a month in funny $$ & not have it raise costs. BTW, PV shows very little primers & powder in stock on their web page so the 50K thing, uh, nope, unless they are ignoring the website. Maybe Obama is working their part time???

I think price increases of 3% to 5% is a great deal IF that increase is applied to pre-shortage prices.
That would be a good deal IMO!

I can deal with a 3% - 5% increase. After being in business for most of my adult life, I feel that is quite fair. The Company's costs are going to go up every year and that is a very fair amount to pass on. Now that we have The "Affordable" Health Care Act everything will be increasing and probably at a greater rate than gun powders.

Agree 3-5% would be fine. However, prices for reloading components have skyrocketed. Ammo has doubled.
I just found a box of Win. SPPs I bought 4 years ago and forgot I had. I paid $13.95. Local GS now wants $36.95 for CCI SPPs. That is a bit morethan 5%!

Well this looks like as good as any place to start w/o starting a new thread. We all pretty much know there is pretty much no powder available online (at least anything anyone really uses). I bought a couple pounds of Titegroup last month at the gun show and prices were certainly higher but still in the upper 20's. Today at the Orlando gun show was an about face. Other than a few odd items scattered about there are really only 3 places worth mentioning. Space Coast basically had nothing in any size other than a few 1# oddballs. Young's had at least some of everything in 1 and 8# jugs. Regardless of brand or type they had pretty much jacked everything to $30+ for one pound and $200 for 8 (all plus 6.5 tax). The little bit of Vihtavouri was much higher. I thought that was bad. There was a 3rd place from St Augustine peddling powder for roughly $40 or $260. I did grab the only 8 pound jug of Ramshot Tac in the place for $200. Horrible price but I rationalized it as it would have cost me that much shipped (assuming I could find it) with hazmat and of course I needed it. Seemed like plenty of primers but places I usually buy from had raised prices since last month. Typical was $38-45 but one had most small and large for $30 and one other place $35. Not a whole lot in the way of bullets this time either.
At the current rate so called 3-5% price increases mean little if the shortage hangs on and those that can get it keep gouging.

A few months ago, Graf's reloading on-line showed zero primers and powder in stock... I took a road trip that fortunately went past the St. Charles MO store then the Mexico, MO store. Each had limts on primers and powder, but several flavors were available.
I'm set for several calibers, but still need some components to load ammo for guns I don't shoot, and probably will never have time to develop some loads for them. Just another sickness

I would add to the pile if it were available but right now I can easily make it to next summer with my current supplies. I am just monitoring the situation. If say 2400 or Unique came good in an 8 lb jug I would grab some though.

I think we'd all be happy to pay 5% more if we could just find some.
That's kinda like saying unicorns are being marked up.

Locally primers can be had 1,000 at a time and Hogdon powders have become available. No Alliant powders though. Powder prices have stabilized at $25 to $28 per pound vs. $18 to $22 pre-panic.

Steamloco, I don't know where in western PA you are or if your powder usage will warrant it, but it may be worth a road trip to Ashland Ohio to the Fin Feather and Fur. They're still under $23 for single pounds and in 4 or 8 pound jugs, under $18/pound. While regular price is $40, you may also find primers on sale for $30. Make a list and call them first if you choose to go!

steamloco,
FIN/Feather/Fur has stores in CLEVELAND AND CANTON OHIO also.
Canton Ohio store is close to THE NFL HALL OF FAME if you would care to visit that also.

Buddy just went to the local gun show. $216 for 8# of 2400!!! I told him not to buy it, cheaper online but we have to find some. He went w/ the bird in the hand. Yes, look around, everyuthing is going up in price. We are in an inflationary period, the govt jus hides it like it hides it's unemployment numbers. Not counting fuel & food in inflation is not very realistic.

3-5% would be great, now all they need is some stock. At least interest rates won't be going up anytime soon, the Federal goverment couldn't afford to pay the interest on its loans if it did raise the rates.

There were a couple of folks selling powder at the show in Lexington this past weekend. The going rate seemed to be $22/lb for Alliant powders and $23 or $24 for Hogdon powders.
I went over to one with the intention of buying a pound of Unique, and they talked me into an 8lb can instead at their "show special" price of $139.99 plus tax.
In retrospect, I wish that I'd bought two. I probably would have at least bought an 8lb of 2400 if they'd had it.

At $17.50 a pound, you didn't get hurt.
