Default Bidding on primers

So, I found some Federal Match Large Rifle primers on Gunbroker. Surprisingly, few bids. So I bid $75 for 2,300...close to retail. Then. I bid $92 later when someone out bid me. Another bidder outbid me again about 2 hours later...by $7. Then, a new bidder comes in seconds before the end of auction and pays the $300 “ buy it now” price. Is there any doubt that this is BS? ... beating the existing high bid by $108?,

Sounds to me that there are some people out there that just have to be 1st.................
or like to ready get people mad, for their enjoyment...........
no matter what the cost.

There are some people that just treat $100 dollar bills, like you and I treat $20's.

It just make any sense.

If I'm not mistaken GB has 20 min rule isn't it, so I guess person didn't want to play bidding games and went for "buy it now". I can't imagine paying $0.15 per primer !

I think you are probably wrong, but I would have a stronger opinion if I saw the auction and the folks involved. Funny thing about this idea of selling primers on Gunbroker...

It's not at all easy to ship HAZMAT items if you don't have a full commercial shipping account that is set up for this. I wouldn't be surprised if some folks are breaking the law when it comes to actually delivering on what they are offering for sale.

As for the price? You are talking about trying to buy items that simply are available basically nowhere. That means you can be as skeptical as you like about what someone else you don't know is willing to pay, but you should know that whatever you thought the rules are or were, those rules changed in 2020 with every political strife, every "mostly peaceful" city riot and every day leading up to the November election. And since the results of that election are SORT-OF in, whatever you thought the market rules were have been crumpled up, dipped in napalm and set ablaze.

Well I just had a person sell me 5000 Win Small rifle primers a half hour ago and I paid retail or just about...150 bucks. And sold the fellow 2 boxes of 270 and 2 boxes of 30-30. He needed the ammo. Can't believe rifle ammo is getting hard to get here in rifle country. Even Wally World is out of standard ammo. Personally I think those weird prices on GB are shill bidding trying to create a feeling of fear so people will pay more. 2000 of those primers are gonna go to a friend. All of a sudden even large rifle primers are hard to get. Sheesh I have about a lifetime supply with less than 5000

There is a local auction house near me in Michigan. Up for auction are 500 small pistol primers. Currently they are at $105. One more day on the auction. Plus 10% buyers premium plus 6% sales tax. Ouch!

Just because some people think the market price is outrageous doesn't mean that is not the market price. At least there is ammo and reloading components out there too buy. Where things are on a persons priority list is whether or not they choose too buy. Larry

It does seem silly for folks to pay that, but I guess if they have all of the other components and no primers the other items are not really worth much. I honestly believe this one will pass like many others have, but I say that after having purchased a good supply of ammo and reloading components when prices came back down. I will buy more when or if they drop again though.

I don't have an Ebay account. If I really wanted them I would "Buy it now."

$300 for 2300 primers is WAY more than I would be willing to pay.

If I had zero primers & really needed them I might change my mind.

So I would say there is some doubt.

The way auctions work. Many times people getball into the bidding & end up paying more than its worth.
I used to go to a local auction twicw a year. It was a pretty big, 3 day event. I stood next to,a guy who bid over retail for a Dillon 650. After local tax, he could have just called Dillon. It took me 4 auctions to get a decent M28 for a fair price.

Kinda defets the purpose of reloading cost wise... if you have the coin and can still enjoy it, by all means bid away...

At local gunshows this weekend primers at $60 a brick were bargains. Many people were pricing them Higher. A friend had a table and he said the Ammo dealers were buying his ammo and repricing it to resell at the same show.

I think the seller was NOT getting the bid amounts he expected so he had a friend or family member do the "buy it now" so he could put them up again, shortly. Keep an eye out for the re-list.

There was a on-line auction of ammo and reloading supplies about 2 weeks ago. I was shocked to see a few bids for up to $11.00 p/100 for primers. Small pistol went the highest, and large rifle the least. 9mm rounds were bringing $35 to $45 per box (of 50).
