Smile Favorite/Accurate .243 load

Do any of you guys have a good accurate .243 load using 4064 IMR powder, it has been a long time since I loaded any and I cant find my notes on what worked best. I loaded 20 today with 36 gr. of 4064 and Sierra HPBT match king bullets but I have not been able to try them, I had a cornea transplant on 11/20/13 in my Right eye and my eye is now 20/150 better than 20/250 a week after surgery, I guess my grandson will have to test my loads as I cant see good enough, any way if you have a pet load I would like to try it. Thanks Jeff

I'm not sure if this forum has any rules against posting reloading info, but here is my pet load for .243.

It's 41.2 grains of IMR 4350 pushing a 100-grain Sierra spitzer boat tail. Muzzle velocity is 2900 fps.

Sorry I don't have any loads using 4064.

Mine were made with IMR 4350 too
43 gr-Speer 90 gr spitzer-3000 fps
46 gr-Speer 75 gr hollow point-3280 fps
Both were sub moa for 3 shots from a lightweight Ruger with a 20" barrel.

I used Varget, and Nosler 70 or 80 gr bullets. Long range varmint loads that shoot sub MOA.

Checking my Sierra manual, for their 107 gr HPBT MatchKing the Maximum load of IMR 4064 is 33.5 gr. Their 100 gr hunting bullets have a max IMR 4064 load of 36.2 gr, which is their recommended Hunting Load. If you are using the 107 gr bullet, you may want to rethink your loading.

I used to run an 80 grain Sierra Blitz ahead of 48.0 IMR-4350 out of a Remington M700 24" barrel. It was a hot load but deadly accurate. It would nearly vaporize groundhogs.

I've never loaded 243 but 4064 seems a little fast. My favorite uncle used to use 4064 to load just about everything including his 300 H&H, and they all shot pretty well, but IMHO a little slower powder like 4350 would be better for something like the 243.

I forgot to mention my bullet weight which is 70 gr. I had not loaded any since 11/23/82 by the label on the box, I was looking in the Dillon Blue press catalog and they had the 70gr HPBT match kings at 30.95 a hundred and I dont think what I loaded the other day cost 6.00 a hundred if that in 1982, no wonder ammo is so high. Thanks for your input guys. Jeff
