Default Need 700 grain 500 S&W bullets

Hey guys,

I see several of you have the capabilities of making such ammo. Was wondering if anyone would be interested in making me 100 of these and possibly 100 - 600 grainers too? 310pilots box is full so I can't contact him?

Plan to switch to loading some 500's soon and need some bullets!

TIA, Darrell.

The folks at Ballistic Supply in Idaho offer 700-gr loadings, but I don't know if they sell the bullets by themselves. No harm in asking. If they say no, maybe they would tell you who their supplier is.

You can find them with an internet search.

Here is a 725 grain wadcutter shown alongside a Remington factory 41 Magnum Core Cast 250 grain hunting load for comparison. It chambers and shoots just fine

The mold I am using now drops the wadcutters at 700 grains and can optionally produce hollowpoints. The tiny cast projectile on the left is 450 grains.

Lt Dan,
My casting furnaces are not where I am. I will not get back to them for several months at least.

Have you tried Matts Bullets? I am pretty sure he casts up the 700s.

Hi Colt saa,

Matts out and a huge backlog. Ranger Rick quit and everyone else selling them is out of stock, as well. Ballistic bullets are thieves! $115.00 for 50 I think it was and Matt charges $25.00.

Was hoping someone here would make me 50 - 100 and charge a reasonable amount to help a fellow enthusiast out.

When you get back to making a few of these let me know colt. I'd like to purchase a few for later use then. That's if your interested and willing to sell some?

LT...

BTW,
Most folks do not add it up in their heads, but a S&W 500 loaded with 5 of those big 700 grain wad-cutters is carrying half a pound of lead.

I just find that to be amazing. Half a pound of lead launched at roughly 1300 FPS is a lot of energy down range.

I sold the 500 almost as fast as I bought it....it was novelty, and it wasn't fun. The heaviest I loaded was a 400gr.....still did not do what I thought it should, and for the price, I expected much, much more.....but it sure scared people.
I bought the little 8" 460XVR......and it runs circles around the 500 I had.
I can still put a whole wheel weight in the brass, but it will hit the car the wheel weight came off of.....even if they have driven to the next county!!

13,140 FPE, a little more than a single .50 BMG!

Best,
Rick

700 grain bullets. I used a 520 grainer in a 45-90. 700 grain. Now that is a big bullet.

The 4" does not stabilize the 600,700, the 83/8 shoots them well, and the 18" gets full use of all the powder to produce max power. Why , well to make big blocks into smaller blocks!!! Be Safe,

Vic3620,

Got the 700Gr. bullets you so graciously offered via USPS yesterday. Just wanted to publicly Thank You for the generous offer and for coming forward to help a fellow enthusiast out. I knew someone on this forum would help me. It's what this community is all about. Hopefully someday I can help a member out myself.

Will let you know how these bad boys fair at the range. I still need to order the Dillon 500 mag shell plate and funnel before I can begin my reloading session but, for now I'm stoked. I have wanted this weapon for quite awhile and want to push her to her limits. I think I've got the tools needed to accomplish my dream.

Again buddy.

T.H.A.N.K.S.

Lt.....

I can do 1,300 FPS with a 420 grain bullet out of my Quigley 45-70 Sharps replica. Takes 16 shots to launch a pound of lead from an 11# rifle. I still don't want to shoot a 500 S&W!!

Brings to mind the 50-140 Sharps rifle- that's 50 cal with 140 grains. of black powder. Ad would say only fired 20 times by four different owners............Enjoy!

I was thinking about trying some of the 700 grain rounds in mine but the 500 grain ones I Shot were pretty toasty. Anybody know the ballistics for some max loads for the 500 just kind of curious not that I reload, Just wondering what it was capable of.
