Default 185 JHP Bullseye Load Test prelim

Years ago Dave Salyer ( Bullseye Master & 'smith ) along with Al Dorman developed loads with the 185 Nosler JHP . Test results were outstanding . They shared this info with both the Army & Marine Corps teams . They were so taken with it they still use this bullet in their ammo to this day . Also years ago Winchester also had a 185 MCSWC in their match ammo that also shot very well , unfortunately the ammo & components have been unavailable for many years . Federal Gold Medal Match also still has a 185 MCSWC load & Remington also makes a 185 MCSWC that also shoots well . The Nosler bullet has had some subtle design changes over the initial loads , but still shoots well enough . Zero also has a 185 JHP that IMHO is just as good as the Nosler . Original Salyer / Dorman load of choice was 4.5grs of Bullseye with the Nosler . The military teams are constantly testing & their loads change to meet the parameters they desire . Initally both the Army & Marine Corps were using between 4.1 to 4.7grs of VV N310 . Only they & Atlanta Arms know what they're using today . Now N 310 is an excellent powder but it's pricey , temp sensitive & speed has slowed a tad . For years my load was 4.3grs , current lots I've had to bump it to 4.5grs to get same performance . Of interest to the Action Pistol crowd is you can push the Nosler to meet PF without accuracy degrading . While it's a point of diminishing return for a Bullseye shooter because of recoil shooting onehanded , I thought you IPSC guys might be interested . Still having issues getting powder & bullets so this is just a prelim . I will post full tests when completed , but for know y'all can mull these over .
4.3 - 4.7 VV N310 ( Accurate , 4.5 is my choice but some guns like hotter )
4.6 - 4.8 WST ( Also accurate , 4.8 is my choice )

4.5 - 4.8 Bullseye ( Accurate , 4.5 is my choice , but some guns want hotter )
4.6 - 5.0 Nitro 100 ( 5.0 most accurate but HOT 900fps . Allan Fulford's load . )
4.3 - 4.5 Clays ( Not in my guns , but damn good in others )
4.4 to 4.6 Titegroup ( same as Clays )
4.5 to 4.7 700X ( Accurate . Zero loaded ammo uses this powder )

All were acceptable . Again each gun had it's own preference . For those looking to clone the Fed GMM 185 load try 4.3grs VV N310 , Rem 185 MCSWC , OAL 1.180 . Zero bullet every bit the equal of the Nosler & cheaper too . Best velocity for Bullseye 780 - 820fps . Best results from new or 1x fired same headstamp/ lot cases . All loads with Starline brass , WLP primers , OAL 1.200 , tapercrimp .469 @ case mouth . These are the most accurate loads for Bullseye from an accurized 1911 . Guns used included a Dave Salyer wadgun , Bob Marvel wadgun , Ed Masaki wadgun & a Roddy Toyota wadgun . All with Kart Super Match barrels . All were shot from a Ransom Rest . Avg 10 round group size ( for a load that gun liked ) @ 50yds was just a hair over 1" . That's why the Military shooters use it . These are in my book expensive loads . Save them for the 50yd line & then only in state , regional or National matches .
