Default Available powders for Xtreme 223 loads

I've been looking all over for Tac, BLC2, AA-2230, or H-335 so I can load some Xtreme 55 gr bullets. Tough world out there!

223-55gr. FMJ

I'm curious what y'all are finding in the market these days and where. I've got NO powder but everything else! I'm loading on a Hornady LNL AP and like spherical powders for the case activated drop but am open to all "experiences"!!!

Thanks in advance!

I was over at Sportsman's Warehouse the other day and it looked like all powders were out (although I didn't ask). I haven't loaded in several months due to moving so what I have I acquired before all the craziness.

What I loaded and still have are Hornady 55 gr SPWC and Terminator powder which is a bit faster than TAC with a CCI 400. I'm loading (or will again) on a LNL with Redding dies and a Lyman M dies to make it easier to start the bullets in the case.

Good luck in your search.

3 more powders would be Winchester 748, Hodgdon's Benchmark and H-322. I loaded 20,000 55 grain FMJ 223's with 748, and you will like the results! Have loaded a few thousand with the others and they will work fine. Varget is what I load my 75 grain A-max 223's for 1000 yard plate shooting but I hand weigh these because it is extruded. Ivan

I'm in Central Ohio. Winchester, Hodgdon, and IMR powders are on shelves here. Not every store has every powder, every day. But I am seeing all powders. 748 was on the shelf Thursday night a Champion Shooters Supply. They are on the web and ship everyday, I thought I saw some of the Hodgdon ball powders also and they had 20 one pound bottles of Varget. 20,000+ each of WSR & WLR primers, also some CCI pistol primers. Not to rub it in but since 2008 I've buying my reloading supplies 2 years in advance. I place an order with Champion Shooters Supply, and let them fill it as the can. Takes up to 6 months now days, but that won't bother me. I'm stocked up for 22, 6mm, 30, 338, 45 caliber rifle, and 22, 7mm, 38, 44, & 45 hand cannons. I did go to load a box of 44-40 Black Powder equivalent loads for a friend, and noticed I'm out of .427 200 gr LRNFP bullets. (I loaded a 3 year supply this winter) I can cast these or buy them from Patriot Bullets. The key is to supply yourself, like a stocked kitchen pantry. Just like the wife, I buy in quantity and when there is a sale. Unlike the wife, I can purchase supplies from the estates of shooters who past away (Left the Range). I may get a deal, but I Absolutely Will Not Take Advantage Of Widows! Usually families want to keep or deal with the guns and factory ammo, but have no understanding of reloading components and equipment. Reloaded ammo is variable on the care the shooter/reloader exercised. Unknown reloads are paid for as used brass. They are pulled, bullets usually melted down and powder burnt or fertilize the yard, primers destroyed. I hope this helps. Ivan

I just picked up some AR-Comp from Powder Valley. I've never used it before but it was what they had and I was in need--running out of W748. You just have to check frequently. Natchez seems to list 223 powders off and on, you just have to hit them at the right time. Good Luck!

I bought a .223 bolt action last week. Got primers and bullets, and no powder. Checked all LGSs in area. One had some powder coming in the next day. Went early and got a pound of IMR 4189. Loaded up a bunch of 55 grain Hornady soft points.

Getting 1/2" groups (outside to outside) at 25 yds using low-mid to middle loads. I could probably bring that down a tad with a proper benchrest. Doesn't appear to dirty up the gun. Uses a couple grains less than most other powders, so it is a tad more economical.

So far, I'm happy.
