Default Lee shell plate

I have been using a lee load master for reloading for awhile now. No complaint as of yet I have loaded a few thousand 9mm and 38 and a few hundred 44 mag and 45 colt. I recently purchased a shell plate from Natchez for 45 acp, #2L. I have had the shell plate for about a month and just got around to loading 45 ACP. It came from Natchez new in the box.

Today I put the shellholder on the turret and tested it for function. While doing this the primer seating plunger became stuck between the hole in the shell plate. As a result I had to punch the cylinder out of the bottom of the shell plate to remove the shell plate from the turret. I then took an empty 45 ACP case and tried to place it it in the shell plate. No luck it would not fit. I tried a 9mm Luger case and it fit perfectly.

I submitted a ticket to Lee and I am currently waiting for a response.Has anyone else had a part stamped incorrectly from Lee or am I missing something? Makes me wonder about quality control. I'm now worried that I will have to replace the primer plunger for fear that the force of driving it out of the shell holder put a dent in it that could ignite a primer upon seating

I do not load on a lee so I cannot answer the question about parts being stamped incorrectly, but I would assume that Lee's customer service is just as good as other reloading companies. If you have any concern about any part on it being damaged or bent, tell them that you need a new one also along with the new shell plate. I am sure that they will send you one at no cost since it was caused by a mistake on their end.

Did you try a differnt brand (headstamp) of brass. Sometimes there are ones that will not fit.

As you contacted LEE they will fix it up for you. I have had to send shell holders back with a few pieces of brass so I get on that fits. All my 223 fit #4 except my best Hornady brass? So they modified one for me.

Could be the brass could be the shell plate. Stuff happens.

Did you look at OP's picture that shows the issue? The part is clearly stamped wrong, no way any .45 acp case is fitting into that plate.

Thumbs up

Update:

Lee immediately responded to my request and sent a new shell plate and large primer plunger. No questions asked and no need to return the faulty items. Lee gets an A++++ rating from me.

It took me a little bit to respond to this thread as I was busy reloading 45 acp upon arrival of the replacement items.
