I want rifle powder......
Everybody knows the pistol powder deal but how about rifle powder? I have and can find plenty of SR4759 but I can't find 4895 (either IMR or Hodgdon) since the SHTF well over a year ago. The reason I like these two powders is that I'm a reduced load freak. I load 30-06. Chime in.

Welcome to the club, you are going to have to use your networking skills to find any unless you are willing to pay through the nose for it. I have a buddy that has 3 pounds, I need one pound to finish a batch of shells for my Garands, I offered him a Federal 550 round value pack of 22LR in trade, we shall see how long he can hold out.

RW,
I don't know if availability differs from region of the country. A local shop that I frequent has shelves upon shelves of Hodgdon and IMR powders. This is new stock put on the shelves a month or so ago. Pistol powders are still hit and miss. A load pops up every so often.
I know this doesn't help you, but indicates recent production and hopefully available somewhere. Good luck in your hunt.

Keep checking ATP and Carolina Arms.
ATP has several rifle powders in now. I don't think I saw any 4895, but they did have the new CFE223, as well as 4320, and a couple others. They have not had rifle powder on the shelf in a long time, but the shelf is starting to look less bare.

If you like SR4759 and can find it, you need to buy it while you can. It has been discontinued as announced by Hodgdon.

It seems that region has an awful lot to do with it. People have talked about having plenty of powder that nobody else in the country has.

Yep, just get in line with the rest of us. Just be diligent about checking your online sources daily, and stopping by your LGS as often as feasible...

Don't forget taking days off of work to be in line with all the retired guys when the stores open so you can get your daily limit. I swear I see the same bunch every time I happen to have a day off. Either it's one heck of a coincidence or they are there dang near every day cleaning off the shelves.

I feel your pain, I don't shoot my rifles to much since the nearest "big" rifle range is 66 miles one way so I never stocked supplies like my pistols. I have 5 lbs between Varget, RE15, & AR COMP which will last me another year and a half (about 800 loads and right in time for another fiasco in 2016), but I want to try other powders for load development.
I miss walking into my local store and saying "give me a pound of XXXXX, I want to try some new loads".

You don't mention if you are willing to order online or if you just want to find a couple of pounds locally but there has been a good bit of both H and IMR at MidSouth, Recobs, 3rd Generation, etc over the last year, many times available for several days until it gets pilfered. Keep up with the recurring reloading supply update and I feel confident you can locate some.

If you're a reduced load freak you are in luck because that's exactly what SR4759 is used for! Considering Hodgdon said all the SR powders will be discontinued at the end of 2014 I would stock up on that powder to keep shooting those reduced loads you are so fond of...

with the 30-06 in 200gr Jsp bullets you can get medium to reduced loads with 4064 and imr 4831 will also work for reduced loads.
A 180gr SP can drop down to a old "Krag" load with just 54grs of 4831 at around 2406 fps that works well in my old 1903.
Both 4895 work but it is very hard to find.....
Good luck getting some powder.

I was in a LGS yesterday afternoon that had IMR 4198 and 4064 and
H380 and 4831SC on the shelf at $26-$28 per pound. No pistol powder.
I haven't bought any rifle powder for a while so I don't know what
people are paying these days. I may go back and get some but I
haven't decided. I handload mostly pistol and don't really need any
rifle powder but 4064 is very versatile.

You may have to switch powder brands.
According to Allaint's 2015 guide, 30-06 can use Reloader 15, 17, 19 and 22 for most loads. All of these are available at Midsouthshooter's supply: Reloading and Shooting Supplies, Tools and Equipment | Midsouth Shooters Supply
They also had IMR 4064, 4831, 4320, 4320 and 4895 as well.
Yes, you have to pay a Haz-Mat fee, but if you spread it over six to ten pounds of powder, it probably comes close to what your local sellers are charging.

If your are into reduced rifle loads, check out Accurate XMP 5744.
It was designed exactly for that role and has a good reputation as such.
It also does well in the big cylindrical cases.
Recob's Accurate Powders
I don't know how much you shoot but:
Get an 8 pounder (or 2) and the hazmat won't feel so bad.
Recob's also has 1 and 8 pounders of H4895 currently.
Recob's Hodgdon Powders

I'm betting the OP found all the powder he needs since this thread is over 2 years old. Powders are back on the shelves now.

And now we have a Palmetto State Armory store that just opened. A whole shelf full of powder. They may not have the selection that was available before the great shortage, but you do have a real selection available, and prices are good. I picked up some 1lb bottles of Universal for $20.45. Plus they give a 5% military discount.
They are awfully proud of their range, however.
