Default Gauges

I picked up these gauges the other day because I was getting tired of having to pull a gun out and check the reloads would chamber every time that I changed a bullet that I was reloading.

The main problem was with roll crimps rounds.

Where do you get gauges like that?

Looks like EGW multi caliber case gauges. I kinda like to see the rounds fit my actual gun and not a gauge. Not much trouble to try them in a revolver. Come to think of it i do not even check them anymore unless I get a new gun or bullet. I have a couple CZ semi autos that they may fit a gauge but no way will they fit the chamber.

Rule3 is correct. They came from EGW (EGW).

I use gauges for 9mm & .380 - every round gets checked as it comes off of the press. I also have one for 38 spl. but rarely use it.

What cartridge are you getting a sticky fit with in regards to a roll crimp? If you crimp is in to the groove, it shouldn't be an issue at all. Are you using a roll crimp on a particular bullet (as in plated or jacketed) that doesn't have a crimp groove? If so, switch to a taper crimp on that particular bullet.

Default I would like to have....

I have a nice Wilson gauge for 30-06 but it seems that it's not a guarantee a cartridge will chamber in my rifle. I've been perusing this problem for some time and haven't come up with anything yet.

Semi autos are easy. Just use the barrel for a gauge. Better than anything you can buy.

bedbugbilly,
it was with the 38 when I switch from a SWC to a JHP and then back to the SWC. It was also the first time that I used the spacer that came with the dies to adjust between a 38 and 357.

If a roll crimp is bulging the case a little, you are using too much crimp.
Back off the die a tad.
You only need enough crimp to keep the bullet from backing out.
Even in 44 Magnum loads I use very little.
It seems to work (for the last 30 years).

The EGW gauges are great, I just bought one for 5.56 because I was having chambering issues.... 7 hole for 33$ IIRC, sure beats everyone elses prices of 30+ dollars for a single hole gauge.

ALSO, EGW makes fantastic parts, been using them for a few years for 1911s. and picatinny bar stock. Even had em refinish a Giles .38 a few years back when he still worked on guns. Geo and his crew are great, will also make custom parts if needed, and local for me to boot.
