Default Hornady Free 9MM 115 Grain HP/XTP or .38 110 Grain HP/XPT?

Just got a new Hornady press and am eligible for 500 free bullets. I have two powders, Red Dot, which I have been told is better for .38, and SR7625, which is a better fit for 9MM.

I know these bullets aren't really target loads, but they are free and I have no intention of loading up carry ammo.

So is the Red Dot with the .38 bullet a better choice over the 9MM with the 7625?

The 110gr is too light in my opinion for 38, so I'd get the 115gr 9mm bullets.

I agree with Novalty, the 110 grain bullet is too light for a 38 special/357 Magnum. Too bad they didn't offer the 125 grain XTP's, they work very well over 10 grains of AA #5 in a 357 Magnum.

So, take the 115 grain 9mm bullets and load em up. The XTP is a crackin good bullet in my opinion and once you have some experience with the accuracy potential of these bullets you'll understand why I keep a rather large selection in 357 and 451 diameter on hand.

Both the 115 and 110gr bullets work GREAT as a light target load in a 9mm or either 38 or a 357 magnum.
The little 110gr Jhp did not do well in my 38 snub nose for accuracy but did do well in my longer 6" barrels from 945 fps to 1132 fps, for your non-SD loads. You might try 4.4grs of Red Dot for a standard load to kill paper.

the 115gr in the 9mm 3" can get as low as 926 fps or up to around 1090 for a good target speed that has accuracy in my pistols. Try 4.0grs of Red Dot and see if the action will kick out the brass and you can go up or down in the amount of powder to find a load that you like.

Both of your powders should do well in the 9mm.

Have fun.
