Default Hornady QC on presses?

I just bought myself a Hornady Classic Kit, to start off my reloading addiction.

Going through all the items I was pleased (Those Hornady Dies are just pure perfection in terms of machining an finishing).

Then I got to the press.

Holy chipped paint batman! Chipping all over!

I immediately dismissed this to shipping and handling. It happens, can't do much about it.

Then, then... I noticed it was touched up all over the dang thing! A mis matching red color in a bunch of different spots, looked like someone's red nail polish!

I know this is a tool, and it will get its marks at some point... I can accept shipping damage... But, someone at the factory saw all this chipping and decided to just touch it up in the worst of ways.

Over reacting? Maybe... But, I spent 3 times more on this kit than a Lee 50th and my friend has a 10 year old Lee that still looks new. I figured for three times the price it would be even better.

Oh well... Kinda wanted to rant a little. Thoughts?

I know, I know... If it functions, quit whining and go reload!

Thanks. I am actually about to send one out.

Does this sound at all normal? Do most of these come with some chipping paint? Because if its a normal practice I will just ignore it.

Also, I was surprised to see their lock n load bushings are made in china.

I have not seen anything like this on other Hornady presses; it is definitely not normal. I suspect they'll replace it and you'll be happy.

Did you buy it direct from Hornady??

Or from a vendor like Midway or someplace?. If so it could have been a return item. Either way there should be no damage.

They pack them so well there should not be any shipping damage. Call or write to were you bought it.

No, I have a Hornady lock-n-lock O-frame press with a very nice finish. In fact, I think I've waxed it

I'd be displeased with what you describe and it would drive me nuts for tens of years. Make it right.

I agree with all of the above.

I wax mine to maintain the nice finish it has But I wouldn't put up with a chipped one either. They will make it right.

Definitely worth a complaint. If you can, send pictures to Hornady with your e-mail

Bought new and in factory shrink wrap. All other components inside were also factory sealed.

Got it from Sportsman's Warehouse, locally.

Well its good to know they aren't normally like this.

I have an email out to Hornady, I couldn't attach photos. I will happily send them some if requested.

Thanks for all the comments. I will update the thread when I hear back.

Never got a response via my message off their site. Called in today, spoke with a very nice lady about the situation.

She asked for some information, apologized for the weird issue... and will be sending out a UPS label to ship the current press back.

She was very confused, she seemed to think that there was no such thing as touching up a press before they ship.. they pass QC or don't.

Weird situation, however their Customer Service is very good!
