Default .32 S&W Long and 115gr Laser Cast

Any luck with the 115gr Laser Cast SWC in the .32?

Kind of hard to find data for that weight in the .32 Long.

Thanks.

I wonder if Buffalo Bore used those bullets in this load:

I've never loaded that heavy bullet in any of my 32 Longs. Stayed at 98 Gr. & lower. They work fine.

That weight of RNFP bullet is the standard bullet developed for the 32-20 WCF. I have loaded 1000's of 32 longs with that bullet. I have just moved and my Lyman #45 and my Lyman Cast Bullet #4 are buried. I used somewhere in the range 1.9 to 2.1 of WW231 in top strap revolvers. But without my manuals and the notes I have in them: Do Not Trust my memory! Ivan

It can be done but make sure you start with a dramatically reduced powder charge. The first time I tried it with 231 I had to pound the brass out of my Single Six. There isn't much room for error.

1.7 Bull showed poor accuracy but no pressure signs and no trouble extracting. 1.7 and 1.8 Tite were better groups and no pressure signs and no trouble extracting, but they leaded up the barrel, even with ALOX added.

Has to be a better combination, aside from scrapping the batch of 115gr bullets.

I know generally the Lasers need to be pushed a little to reduce leading, but I am not sure that can be done safely with the 115gr in the .32 SWL.

I did not chrono but I guess I will now.

I use that bullet in my 327 Federal mag. You can call or e mail Laser cast and they will send you what data they have. There is also data here.

My standard bullet for .32 S&W Long, .32-20, and now .32 H&R, for the past nearly 50 years, has been the Lyman 3118, now 311008, which is nominally 115 gr. 3.5-4.00 gr Unique in .32 S&W Long. Several commercial casters sell basically this same bullet.

My mould for 3118 has a gas check (and a different #). I not only use it and those 32's but for M-1 Carbine, and light/plinking loads for 30-30, 303 British, and 303 Savage (just size to the correct diameter). I even loaded a batch of 7.62 x 39 with it. It worked, but not to successfully. I cast a large coffee can full and the size the to .309, .311, and .313 and keep the well labeled! Now days about 2/3 go to .311 rounds (mostly 32-20 pistol and rifle). It is on of the most versatile moulds you can own. Ivan
